$20 to replace a watch battery????

Edited to add: The watch is an OLD Timex. At least my "good" watch is a wind-up...

These places are really getting up there in price to change watch batteries. Even my local hardware store now charges $15--plus tax!

I learned to change my watch batteries through Youtube videos. The hardest part is prying off the back of the watch, but I figure if a hardware store employee can do it I can do it. I buy the appropriate battery on Amazon. I tired of paying more to change the battery than I paid for the watch.

Surprising, isn't it? I recently paid $45 for 3 batteries in 3 watches. I'm glad I only took three for replacements!

This wasn't a fancy jeweler in Beverly Hills, either.

Yeah...my jeweler is "local"...and the ONLY place nearby that even advertised they do batteries.

Next time...I'm gonna add a "cheapo watch" to my Amazon order.

@Desertdi Wow! I would be tempted to learn how to do it myself too. After my car dealer charged $50 to change the battery in my key fob, I headed over to YouTube and now do it myself.

My battery in my key fob just needed to be changed. I watched online how to change it. Went to the drugstore and bought a pack of 4 batteries for $5. But then I couldn't get the key fob opened. I took it to the dealer asked them to open it, pulled out my batteries and changed it myself in the dealership.

Some years back, I had the battery in my watch changed while in the local mall. At that time, which was about 10 years ago, the jewelry store charged me $17. So, after that I now use a $2.00 tool that you can purchase on Amazon that opens a watch back/cover. It takes less that 30 seconds to open it, you pop the old battery out and in goes the new battery. The case cover snaps right back on. Give it a try! You can do it!

I bought a watch on clearance at my local jeweler last year before going to FL for the Winter. Of course I put it where I wouldn't forget to pack it...but I still forgot it because it slipped under something.

When we got back, I went searching for it and found it had stopped running. Took it back for a battery change but got a pleasant surprise: All I had to do was place it in a sunny window and the sun would recharge it for free !

It's a good watch that was reduced...a Citizen brand.

A few years back I stopped buying fashion watches even though the colors and styles were very attractive. Donated my whole collection just because of the battery changes that would come due.

Now the sun charges my watch batteries.

At a garage sale found a lovely watch in the free box. Needed a battery. We buy our batteries at the Tree and Hubbs worked at a store (a few years ago) that replaced them.

It doesn't seem like it is so difficult to replace. Just observe on UTube.

I used to have numerous watches to go with every outfit, no more. The batteries got expensive and I was able to change some myself, but not all of them. For health reasons I wear a Fitbit. Batteries are expensive for everything even all my decorations I'm constantly changing out for holidays. I take them out and put them in the next holiday item? I've mastered the car fob and taught my daughter how to do it and we keep spare batteries. We have batteries for our home security system and they're even pricey.

I take mine to an independent jewelery repair shop that's located in a Box store near me. It's $10 or $11.00 and I'm pleased with the price. The only downside is he has very limited hours and I can't always get there when he is open.

A few years ago I was having trouble locating any place that would even do it. I was going to a mall about an hour away from me so I took my two watches and went to Macy's. My local Macy's and Penney's used to change my batteries but they've closed up from my local mall. The Macy's an hour away from me told me they don't do them inhouse and they send them off somewhere and it was going to be over $80.00. I said no thank you. She did give me the name of a kiosk store in the mall that she said changes batteries but when I found it, they weren't open yet. I think I waited until I was able to get to the above-mentioned place.

@Desertdi Yes! As a matter of fact, I went to a jewelry store just yesterday and had a watch battery replaced. It cost me $21.00. I almost died! just a couple of years ago it was $10.00. I know the prices have increased on everything, but this is absolutely ridiculous.
