I just saw this morning on HSN, two Herkimer rings on sale. The one that was heart shaped had some “character “. The emerald cut one looked like plain glass not even clear. However when Colleen Lopez presented Herkimer it had some brilliance to it but to me it was a big “nothing-burger “ Am I missing something?

I have never been tempted to purchase this line. To me it looks like rock candy......nothing special, not alot of pizazz or sparkle. I believe it is a quartz.

Many must like and enjoy it. It seems to sell well.

It is a type of quartz. It can be called Herkimer Diamonds...But it is a quartz. It is very setimental for me. I remember as a child going to the mine and digging for Herkimer diamonds. Was so much fun. You can still go there. It also has a gift shop. It is New York. State

I have a few items from this line and I like it. Granted they certainly do not sparkle like diamonds but they are quite pretty. I did return a couple of things as they had too many inclusions and it took away from the look. If you are lucky and get a nice clear one it makes all the difference. I like supporting an American company and a woman owned mine.

They are just quartz crystals so don't have much sparkle. Kind of dead, like glass.

I like some of the pieces from this line. Years ago, I purchased a white quartz necklace with very large hunks of irregularly faceted quartz along the entire span of the necklace from this collection. I love wearing that one. It has an organic feel to it, and it goes with everything I wear. It gives the appearance of wearing chunks of ice around the neck. I find it fun to wear.

They come out of the earth naturally faceted on both ends of the crystals. I prefer them like that instead of having someone cut and facet them into various shapes. To me that takes away the beauty of natural Herkimer 'diamonds'.

It's just your regular crystal quartz. She does an excellent job of making it sound wonderful and special but it isn't. I have a ring and pendant that wear with my turtlenecks in the winter. I bought mine for much less $ from Shoplc.

To me, it's nice quartz, but nothing special. It all depends on the design of the piece. When they make an item trying to look like a large diamond, it looks silly to me. It has no sparkle or shine like that.

I bought a pair of herkimer hoop earrings a couple of years ago, but ultimately gave them to my young 20-something cousin who told me she liked their "trendy look."

Colleen should be given an academy award for the ridiculous way she hypes it up with the diamond association. Plus those location shots at the mine with the woman who owns it -- nice storytelling.

I've always wondered how this line was allowed to be called "Diamonds." No other quartz line is to my knowledge. I once owned a clear topaz stone that was absolutely limpid, like a pool of water. Sadly that one got weeded out, I wish I had kept it.

Herkimer gems are called 'diamonds' by name only. They are naturally faceted by the earth, they are super clear and they sparkle more than most other quartz types. They are the purist quartz in the world (nearly all made up of pure silicon dioxide). That's why they called 'diamonds' but in name only.

Herkimer diamonds aren't the only 'diamonds' called that by name. Several other US states, and also some foreign countries, have named their own quartz 'diamonds', too.

I know it is quartz and not "diamonds" , but, I really like it's uniqueness! I have a bangle bracelet that I love and wear a lot.

While it is crystal quartz, it's top quality crystal quartz. They facet it which the sparkle and "diamond" like appearance. I don't think Colleen explains that to people who might not understand that. The settings are what make it beautiful . All the shopping channels sell it. They just call it what it is. I love my ring and pendant. It's fun jewelry. Big, pear cuts. I have a ring and a pendant on a 32" chain. Looks great with dark turtlenecks.

I've never seen Herkimer online because I don't follow HSN. I can barely keep up with QVC!

DS' birthday was always around the time of a school 4-day weekend in early fall. For his 16th birthday we surprised him by taking him mining at Herkimer. He's always been interested in science, and this was during his geology phase. When we left he had no idea where we were going. It was so much fun!

We stayed in Utica and set out for the mine early in the morning. We were there ALL day! We had a snack lunch at our car, and went back to work. It was a lot of work! I'm not a girl who likes to rough it much anymore!

We were climbing over uneven rocks. We used our pick axes and chipped away all day. Our plan was to get some and have them made into earrings for DD inside the store.

The professional miners were in one section, and one of them invited DS over to show him how they do it.

DS got a few, and so did DH. I found one on the ground on my way out - LOL! But of course that didn't count! I chipped at rocks all day, and - nothing!

We took the "diamonds" inside to get them made into earrings for DD. Then they told us how much it would be. No thank you!

The lady who seemed to be in charge said she had had two sets made for her summer employees. They were beautiful. She hadn't heard from the one girl, so she sold them to us at a good price.

So we didn't actually "mine" the "diamonds" in DD's earrings, but we were thinking of her!

We had a relaxing dinner at the restaurant adjacent to the mine, and had no trouble sleeping that night!

I like Herkimer for what it is. I bought some hoop earrings several years ago and decided they were "too much" for me to wear on a regular basis. So I took 1/2 of the stones (already have holes in the center of the beads) off each earring and put them on a white gold neck chain (16") and made my own style of "rough diamond" necklace. I actually wear it a lot and it's quite sparkly and not over the top.

I know they aren't diamonds but I like the look and get use out of my purchase. I also like wearing natural stones from the US.

Colleen really gets excited when she presents this line so I've watched her several times but I just never really got into it. It just comes across kind of plain, maybe it is better in person.

I got the recent herkimer HUGE emerald shaped necklace on the paper clip chain and the stone is quite lovely--just the clearest most perfect clear quartz I've seen, but the chain is so short--even with the extender on the back. The cutting is supreme but it's just too short so I will send it back--really only wanted to look at it in person--was worth the return $$ tho. I would buy herkimer eorrings in a heartbeat tho.
