...the boxes that your jewerly came in?

I have a drawer full of boxes. I have a large jewerly storage cabinet that I keep everthing in so I don't use the boxes....and why did I keep them in the first place?

I need someone to tell me it's ok to throw away the boxes, thanks!

It's perfectly fine to toss the jewelry boxes, I had to do the same thing recently!

I was surprised to see how much real estate I freed up on my long dresser, where they'd been piling up!

@Mom2Dogs No I have a dozen or so big Prestige tarnish resistant boxes from Colleen Lopez at HSN. Clear lids so you can see what's in them. That alone should convince you.

@Kachina624 I have all my jewelry stored in a free standing cabinet so storage of the actual pieces is not an issue.

Throwing away the boxes they came to me in is what is in question and as @KingstonMom said, she pitched hers recently and I now feel like I can let mine go, why I saved them is beyond me!

I'm not sure why, but I've never saved them in the first place--very uncharacteristic of me. But I'm glad I don't have any piled up somewhere. You will feel better when they're gone!

The only one I ever kept is the box my engagement ring came in, along with a note from my soon to be husband.

@Mom2Dogs I do the same thing but I use them for other jewelry. I also have a jewelry box and drawer so I also don't know why I keep them. I think we can clear some out!

I keep the velvet lined black boxes I have from Tiffany's. The newer blue boxes are pretty too. The blue pouches are nice when traveling. In fact, David Yurman pouches are also pretty. I am a minimalist when it comes to handbags, clothing and shoes but jewelry is my weakness..

I keep the boxes to my really good stuff; Bulgari, Mikimoto, Van Cleef, Cartier, Tiffany with the jewelry piece in them. All other jewelry is in a big cabinet and in some smaller wooden jewelry boxes. By and large I throw the boxes away from fashion jewelry.

It's funny buying jewelry at estate sales, some are in their original boxes and some have writing on them, who gave it to them, the date, the type of jewelry like Trifari with the name of the collection.

It is ok to throw them out though if they take up too much room. Unless they're sentimental and the boxes mean something to you.

For me it depends on where the jewelry came from. It it came from QVC or a local jewelry store, the box isn't needed.

If it came from Tiffany's ( I never shopped there) or Byzantino's in Athens, Greece, ( I have shopped here ) I would keep the box. Many of these expensive pieces will go up in value and are worth more in their original box.

I collect real gold vintage watches. They are worth more with their original box.

So, if you have an item that could end up as a collectible in the future...keep the box. If not, pitch it if you don't want to store your jewelry in a box.

My more important pieces are in their boxes for the most part, but some cases and boxes and bags have disappeared through the years and a couple of moves.

I also pitched CD cases long ago. They both take up a lot of space.

I also have kept tons of boxes.....Judith Ripka, American West & Carolyn Pollack, Michael Dawkins, Barbara Bixby, Honora, etc.

The reason being is because I thought or was let to believe that if I ever wanted to sell some pieces they would be worth more and sell easily if I had the proper box to go with it. Is this true? Should I continue to keep them or finally get rid of them?

Like you, I also store my jewelry in a jewelry cabinet....I agree that keeping the boxes takes up a lot of room!

I also keep boxes/cases from lines like Judith Ripka, Joan Rivers, RLM, Nicky Butler, Honora, Swarovski, etc.

Generic QVC boxes? Unless I think I'm going to be selling something on eBay and a box would come in handy, they can be tossed.

Most of those jewelry boxes I tossed away long ago.

However, I was glad I kept the long snap box my Concorde watch came in. When I sold the watch at a gold event, the buyer rep said it would resell faster with the special box.
