Last night I had JTV on as background while I did a few things around the house, Nikki was on doing a bella luce show. I had to laugh because she made the statement that this was not "costume" jewelry. Well I guess it is one of those things -- yes they set it in silver and sometimes even gold, so you can look at it two ways. It's not fine jewelry but since it's not set in base metal or "silver tone/gold tone", I guess in some ways it isn't costume.

What do others think? I'd be curious to know. Hey I have DMQ jewelry including some pieces from Judith Ripka that had DMQ added to it - so I've certainly paid my fair share in purchasing those pieces so I'm not trying to be a snob or run it down.

@GinaV24 If it's real gemstones set in silver or gold I don't consider it costume jewelry. Silver and Gold are both considered Noble Precious Metals.

All of their silver has rhodium on top as standard procedure. I'm not sure if the artisan jewelry has the overlay though, like the Artisan of Bali collection.

Hi @cheriere I agree with you on that but do you consider Bella Luce to be a real stone? I guess I don't although it's pretty and sparkly.

Thanks @cheriere appreciate that. I certainly like the look and as I said, I have some items that I really enjoy with DMQ in them. I heard a host make a joke one day about "summer diamonds". It was a play on words on whether or not some are diamonds.

so not disrespect meant at all. I'm wearing a Judith Ripka silver ring with a heart charm on it today.

not costume jewelry because of the metals. One of my nicest jewelry items is a Vanna K for Bella Luce tennis bracelet-rhodium plated. It has looked beautiful for years. I don't consider it costume because of the rhodium over silver.

Non precious or non semi precious stones set in fine metals are considered bridge jewelry between costume and fine.

Ebay considers it fashion jewelry if it doesn't have genuine stones even if set in fine metals.

@smoochy I hadn't thought about it that way. Since it does use precious metals though, I think I agree.

Something interesting I learned watching JTV about how semi precious and precious stones are classified like that dates back to the 1800s and was simply based on taxation purposes. It really has nothing to do with the value of a stone, which I found funny. There are many gems far more valuable than diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. They just still only refer to these as precious because of that old dated shipping taxation law. lol

Costume jewelry, to me, means some base metal with some type of plastic or glass stones in it. I don't consider cubic zirconia to be costume at all. I have many pieces of the various brands of cz that are in silver and gold that are beautiful. I also have many pieces of costume jewelry too--there is a difference for sure. But anything that Nikki ,or really, most of those hosts --- from JTV says always makes me laugh-- over the top 3/4 of the time anyway---makes me shake my head. But---I have bought alot from them and mostly it is beautiful and at really decent prices--a few have been not so great--

Yes, after I thought about it I consider them to be considered real jewelry too, especially since they're set in precious metals.😊❤️

@wagirl ha yes I hear you about their over the top delivery. Nikk & Misty both get on my nerves a bit but I know they are very popular.

I watch the shopping chanels since tthey don't have commercials or political commentary!
