What does this mean?

Way back in 2005 I bought a pair of amethyst earrings right here from qvc, they were 16 ctw, and I believe they were 14 k yellow gold. I just saw the same identical pair on jtv for $270 but they are only 15 ctw. On the tiny thin edge holding the stone in place it says letter s than 14k. What does the s mean?

wow thanks Tori, I so hope you're right. I would post a photo but I have no idea how. But jtv has the same earring for $270 in 14 k yellow gold for twice the price. YAY that makes me happy cause spending $135 back then just about killed me cause I was always poor. Not now so much these days.

Were they a large single stone with a thin edge frame holding the stone? Dangle on wires?

I remember amethyst earrings like that. They also came in blue topez. I bought the topez earrings. I liked them so much I bought a duplicate pair in case I lost them. Mine have the same thing 14k s engraved into the gold.

I now have two pairs. Each pair is a different shade of blue though.

I too agree that's clearly a manufacturer's hallmark. I have the rectangle version of the earrings in smoky topaz and lemon quartz. Love that style!
