First time seeing Montanna Sapphires

Where? On Gem Shopping of course. The color is pale blue with a little bit of green. They were groups of the stones, not a solitaire. I think it was a little over 1/2 carat. They wanted $1,700.00 for them. They were in bottom colored gems wheel. Nice looking, but lightly colored. The rest of the ring were diamonds and 18K white gold. So a lot of the money was because of the metal and diamonds. North America and middle America are not blessed with a wide variety of color gemstones. Sapphires appear in the Carolina's too. I've never seen those though. The saturated sapphires are usually in Asia.

@songbird I've always liked Montana sapphires too. I've never seen them in any colors other than the traditional cornflower blue or green though.

I saw them on ShopHQ as well.

A pair of sapphire studs surrounded by diamonds set in 14k . On sale $2,400. 😟

I'm not much of a jewelry maven but these really talk to me.

@cheriere @Desertdi I can see the appeal for them. I prefer more saturated color, be in light or dark. It was novelty to me never seeing them before. Groups of stones are a lot cheaper then solitaires. But solitaires are where the money is in value. The prettiest sapphire I saw was gorgeous (and i mean gorgeous) orange sapphire. That solitire was $39,000.00

Any stone ofn Gem Shopping speaks to me! A heck of lot better then QVC.

@Snowpuppy Gem Shopping is usually filled with men as hosts. It was rare to get a women there. But now they have one. She was great host. I eally enjoyed that show.

@songbird Check out the Montana sapphire on ShopLC. They may not have any listed right now, but you can't beat their prices. They sell to all the other jewelry shopping channels too.

I gave the nicest sapphire I ever owned, a blue Burmese to my lifelong best friend as a Christmas gift one year. It's about a .40 solitaire trillion cut pendant and necklace. For every 100 Burmese rubies they find one sapphire. Neither of us had siblings and we've been friends since birth lol. She's been there for me through A LOT of things and I wanted to give her something nice. It's her birthstone. She's not into jewelry as much as I am. I tried to convey how rare it was without sounding like I didn't really want to give it away or something. I just hope she really liked it.

@cheriere Sapphires are my only love of colored gem stones. I just like corundum. So it's rubies and blue and fancy sapphires. Sapphires are like in every kind of color. Just every color in the rainbow. They are a lot cheaper in silver, but I don't care that much for silver unless they covered in Rhodium. Most of mine are blues as in solitaires. I got most of mine are through Gem Shopping. One in a jewelry store and a couple through TVON. The others are rubies and yellow and pink sapphires. They are only solitaires. Most are in 18K and two are in platinum.

Thanks and I completely agree about sapphires. I bought a lab grown pink sapphire tennis bracelet to wear with the ring. I couldn't afford to scratch that itch with the natural stone lol. The bracelet is actually too big for me so I never really wear it anyway. I was surprised that the color of my ring matched the lab grown stones in the bracelet so closely. That definitely made me feel better about the purchase. I bought it from ShopLC.

I love sapphires and have several, mostly in blue. I do also have a yellow sapphire ring and a green sapphire ring.

When I was in Bangkok, Thailand I visited a jewelry store where they had the most amazing jewelry pieces. Thailand is known for their jewelry and they make it there. Their stones are amazing, saturated and huge with very little inclusions.

I almost bought a 18k ring with a huge emerald cut sapphire stone with diamonds. It was tempting. It was $1500 which was a steal compared to US prices. I talked myself out of buying it, but it still haunts me and calls my name.

@Carmie OMG!!!! Wow.....you let that one go! It was solitaire?? People invest in Sapphires. Mostly men. They buy them and sit on them for a while, then resell them for more money.

@songbird Yes, it was a very large emerald cut stone set in 18k white gold. It had a few small diamonds too.

The sapphire was a pretty shade of blue...not too dark at all.

The place where I was would let you pick a stone and a setting and they would create the ring for you. They also did stone cutting.

I almost got it. It was a steal compared to American prices, but I have so much jewelry and told myself to not buy something I wanted, but didn't need.

I think about that ring and a pair of south sea pearls earrings...one with a white pearl in one ear and the other ear a black pearl. I saw those in Ohau, Hawaii years ago. $1200.

Today, I could even afford the rent to take a look at them. They are worth thousands. I pushed myself to walk away from them.

Also, in Lahaina, HI, I saw a ring with a new just discovered stone....a tanzanite. The stone was cut into a huge triangle shape and set on it's side. It was beautiful.

It was only about $175 and was the first jewelry store I went into. I waited to see if there was something I liked better someplace else.

There wasn't. When I went back, it was sold. The stone was probably 7cts. It was huge and so beautiful. I have never seen another ring like that again.

@Carmie The Tanzanite has been mined to death. It's appeal was that of looking like a fabulous sapphire. It's very soft though. Softer then an emerald. They still offer them. On Gem Shopping about once a week, they are endless trays of Tanzanite. I like their kind though. It has the red "zap" in them. I always wanted a Tanzanite pendant rather then a ring. I still don' own any Tanzanite. I really have to love any color gem stone outside of corundum to buy it. The valuable one now is the Pariaba....super expensive now. Especially the neon color of blue and green. You had a lot of chances to get super good gems, LOL. What with your travels.

You can find a bit cheaper (then Gem Shopping) by looking at TVON. Check your listings. They are also online. 3 of my sapphire and or ruby I got from them. All in diamond and in 18K. All of my color gems must have diamonds on them. I think gems without them look...unfinished. And they have to be in at least 14K. White or yellow. That's the good thing about Gem Shopping. Everything starts in 14K. I dislike any kind of gems from QVC. Just me.

@songbird I see many tanzanite jewelry items, but none of them are large, nor do they have any saturated color and are so clear you can see through them. They're full of inclusions.

Another stone I love is the watermelon tourmaline. I have solitaire earrings and a pendant with really nice stones, but they are really small...emerald shaped again. I love that shape.

I really like tourmalines in the pink color too, but don't have any.

I have spent a fortune on jewelry and gems over the years....I hate to admit it, but I seem to have lost my passion for wearing it.
