Why is the rep for Aquaprase stones wearing his safari outfit? Didn't he have time to go home and change clothes?

I think it is schtick, kind of like a costume to make us think he's digging the rocks

nice looking guy but rework the outfit

That is a ridiculously inappropriate outfilt for any vendor, let alone a vendor of high-priced jewelry.

Yianni Melas is not a rep for Aquaprase.

He is a gem explorer and has traveled the world for many years, finding gems. Aquaprase is his brand, he is not selling for someone else. He discovered the stone.

He taught gemology for the Gia, back in the 1980's.

He discovered Aquaprase in 2012 and named the gem, after having Swiss scientists research the elements that make up the stone.

He actually does dig stones himself. He also hires indigenous

people to work for him and he advocates for fair business practices for them.They are not exploited.

Look him up online and read his amazing history.

I have been a mineral and gem collector for many years and bought my first Aquaprase stone at a gem show a few years ago.

A jeweler made a pendant for me with that stone. Then I purchased an Aquaprase ring from a London jeweler.

It was previously an unknown stone in the gem world.

Yianni Melas commissioned LeVian Jewelers to create jewelry with his Aquaprase and it has been for sale at Macy's for a few years now.

You will always see him dressed as he appeared on QVC. I was a little surprised that he was not dressed better for his appearance. But, that is him.

His clothes suit his looks and lifestyle quite well I thnk. Aquaprase is not the look of one of my favorite stones but I like the explorer look of Yianni and his interaction on this show. This style is him

@KathyM23 I like his look too. I think that he is a very nice looking man.

I don't like the jewelry styles that he showed. I think that he had LeVian make them. They are very similar to what they have been selling at Macy's and Kay jewelers, for past few years.

You are paying for the heavy gold and the brown diamonds.

The more solid color Aquaprase, without the white, cloudy matrix, has a higher value.

There are people selling more affordable Aquaprase jewelry on Etsy. There is a London jeweler, Tam's Tanzanites. I got my Aquaprase ring from her. Another one is Gemporia.

I caught a nanosecond of the show and thought the stone was beautiful, nothing I'd ever seen before. I only glanced at the vendor. I'd like to see the stone in some more contemporary settings, those in the show were not to my liking and the prices were not in my budget.

i liked the stone, but not the settings,

I went to ebay to see what else is offered, it's either the same as shown on the Q or very contemporary set in silver

@U of M Go Blue His safari outfit reminded me of Crocodile Dundee ! I really was surprised by the juxtaposition of elegant and very pricy jewelry and his outfit. I get that he's a gem explorer and digs for gems, but his outfit came across as kind of campy and performative and I feel that if he wants the prices to be that high, he should look the part and wear a nice suit. Jay King the jeweler of HSN explores and goes into caves, but he wears dress shirts and suits during his presentations. The Gem Explorer can show his ruggedness in maybe a cool leather bracelet or a necklace with a leather cord, but the whole outfit was too much for me. He seems like a nice guy and a very creative and talented guy, but I'd like to see him dressed up in a suit.

I didn't see the show but happened to hit the page online. All I could think of was why isn't this stone in silver so I can afford it? I suggest they think about this if there is a lot of this stone available.

@depglass There is not a lot of this stone available. It comes from one pit in Africa and that is filling with water. Supply is limited.

You can find more affordable pieces on Etsy. Some are set in silver.
