Lab grown diamonds

Zale's has a multi-stone lab grown diamond ring for about $1,000.00. JTV just showed a lab grown 2 ct. loose stone for $2,000.00. What do you see for future appraisals on these stones? Will they hold their value or turn into a dud? As for me I'll stick with my modest mined diamonds and my Diamonique. For now, anyway

I have never understood why it is so important for people to own/have real diamonds.

@Group 5 minus 1 Me either. If I was thinking straight at the time of my engagement, I would have looked for a beautiful wedding set of rings in 14 Kt gold with CZ stones. Heck I would buy a set now if QVC had 1/2 sizes!

I suspect as technology improves, they will become less expensive to buy.

I don't buy jewelry as an investment; although heavy gold weights have gone up in value over the years.

Because they are REAL ... not simulated, lab-grown, etc. There is a difference. If I am going to invest $1,000s on a lab-grown, I'd rather invest it in real

At my my age, I don't envision buying any more diamonds. I have diamonds and other than my wedding set and my stud earrings, I don't wear them. If I did buy a diamond piece, I would choose a mined diamond in my price range over a lab grown diamond. It's not about resale value, it's about looking at my jewelry and knowing it's the real thing.

I just had this discussion with my jeweler over the weekend. He has been a diamond specialist for nearly 50 years. He bought his wife a lab created diamond solitaire stone for Christmas and she ordered the setting she wanted. Will wear it with her wedding band. The stone is stunning and is engraved as a mined diamond would be. He said there is only one known tool at present that can distinguish a top grade lab created diamond from a mined stone.

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me, although I am not in the market for a diamond, mined or lab created. I have rings, a pendant and tennis bracelet, all gifts from my ex and have no desire for diamond stud earrings. Good CZ's are just fine for my ears and if/ when I lose an earring it's not a big deal.

I bought a pair of lab-grown diamond earrings earlier this year. For me the purchase was more about curiosity than anything else. I got them for a decent price and I like the style.

Lab diamonds hold their value to those who are in market to buy them. It's an option to buy ethically-sourced and bigger carat weights at lower prices. Most people who buy lab diamonds aren't looking to sell for profit. They want cleaner and bigger stones as a personal choice and not really as an investment.

I am not a diamond girl so would never buy natural diamonds---but I can see that lab grown will be a thing in years down the road--the destruction of the earth just to mine a few "real" diamonds is disgusting---as well as blood diamonds for profit. Lab grown are real diamonds--just "grown" in much less time, in pristine conditions, and cost. I have 3 tiny moissanite stones in a pendant that are spectacular---originally was found in a meteorites but now is man made. and am sure years from now, the prices will be more reasonable too.

I bought lab grown earring studs this year that were on sale and were a good value for me. I wear them with secure "locking" backs and next to a little smaller natural diamond stud in my second piercing. They look fine together.

Diamonds or lab-grown are not an investment. I would gladly pay MORE for a great quality lab created than a naturally mined stone. The diamond market is terribly corrupt and with an awful history.

Naturally mined stones have at least a 120% mark-up so the value is only on paper. I laugh when people think they can sell diamonds at their appraised value.

I don't know about lab grown diamonds. I mean how can they be considered "real" diamonds if they are grown and not naturally mined? I don't pretend to understand or know anything about this sort of thing but to me, I always thought "real" gem stones were "real" gem stones and "faux" were "faux" no matter what brand or how they were created! Once these lab grown diamonds are taken to a jeweler and examined under their loops or tools or whatever, I'm sure they must be able to ascertain that these are not REAL diamonds and surely the VALUE is not the same!

@AngelPuppy1 A Diamond is crystalized Carbon. Thats all it is. Weather it's created from the pressure of the Earth on a mass of Carbon OR a mass of carbon processed in a Lab, The result is the same. a Piece of crystalized Carbon. So if a Diamond is a mass of crstalized carbon they are Both " real " Diamonds.

Lab diamonds are graded exactly like natural diamonds are graded and in fact, the GIA has been grading lab diamonds for quite some time.
