recent HSN jewelry clearance--well nuts!!!

Recently HSN/Colleen had a pair of hoop earrings with alexandrite, pink and black sapphire choices as a weekly special---it was the jewelry clearenace day last week or so---anyway I ordered the alex ones and got them yesterday along with Connie Carole Craig opal studs----bummer----I cannot get the alex hoop thru my ear piercings--the post is very thick!! However the color of the stones is good, that green color----and the opals--OMG so tiny and not much color ---so back they go! Grrrrr!

@wagirl It's so disappointing when you look forward to a purchase and are immediately let down when it's seen in person. In the past I've tried to talk myself into some of those purchases but eventually realized it's just a waste of money if my first impression was not positive. Recently I ordered a pair of hoop earrings with pave Swarovski crystals. When they arrived I noticed a small crystal was missing in one of the earrings. I really liked them so almost considered keeping them since I figured nobody but me would see the missing tiny crystal but my common sense took over & I returned them.

@nova ---I know the feeling-----they have an omega clip on the back so was toying with getting the post removed but not certain of the price or if they would stay on my ear--alexandrites are my birthstone and are uber expensive to buy let alone find any for less than a house payment--these stones are very nice too. RATS!!!!

@wagirl Maybe it's fate these weren't meant to be & a better piece is coming along in your future! ShopHQ is having gem specials most of the day today if you're interested. Everything is on summer clearance.

@nova ---yes I have seen a few presented on Shop HQ --however still way too much $$ for me--these were priced at under $115 for 0.78 carats of alex---now to me, they are very nice, but tiny, stones and prob aren't the top quality but the color is really good. Will have to ponder a bit.

@wagirl A jeweler could probably grind down that post a bit. Take it to a store that does repairs and ask. Do your Alexanderites items change color in different types of light?

I have a beautiful synthetic Alexanderite solitaire ring that I've had for fifty years that has gorgeous color change properties. You should check out Alexanderite synthetic earrings on Ebay ( these are lab created, not faux). There are many, most way under $50.

@Kachina624 ---they are a pretty, watery blue green mostly but as I have no incandescent lights, they don't turn to that purple red color--another reason I will send them back. Was worth the return shipping $ just to see them tho.

@patbz I too have a very large synthetic Alexanderite ring I bought from a dealer in Bangkok from whom I used to buy a lot of jewelry. It's too big to be believable but it does change color. The silver work on this ring is spectacular. Its normally a plum color that changes to teal.

@Kachina624 : Did you buy your Alexanderite from James Jewellers? I'm pretty certain mine came from there ( via Kachina Wives Club shop). I returned to Bangkok about 8 years ago and, alas, no more James Jewellers!

@patbz No, that wasn't the name of the place. When the price of silver shot up, they too disappeared. I can't remember the name as it has been about 10 years now. They used very heavy silver.

The design of these kind of hoops, with the lever closure, are usually constructed with hefty posts b/c the posts need to be sturdy enough to support the lever in the back. I own several like that and most have thick posts. I manage to get them on but it hurts.
