I don't know what's not to trust. You are not buying jewelry worth thousands of dollars, you are buying jewelry comparable to Colleen Lopez's jewelry sold on HSN.

Stones meant for a shopping channel, nothing like what is sold by Tiffany & Co. Maybe that's a poor example but the rings are nice, the stones are acceptable and overall whatever is sold sparkles under the lights.

In other words, you are getting what you are paying for and that's OK, some do not need or want or able to afford the $10-$20 thousand emerald rings.

Sorry @Mistreatedbycs but I expect to buy a rock, a solid stone, and not have it completely change color then fall apart. If it only cost $5, that's money lost which I didn't plan to throw away.

I noticed when they showed one of the TSV rings the center stone was set crooked. The diopside ring. They must have very poor quality control. I'm glad I never bought from him.

I bought several pieces of white buffalo from Generation Gems (both earrings and rings) and they are well made and very pretty. No problems with quality on those pieces. @bcherry01 I am curious about what causes your distrust with this specific vendor. Can you tell us more?

Wow, @Kachina624 Thanks for sharing your story about that necklace. If you still have the pieces I would for sure contact QVC and ask for a refund. Worse that can happen is they say no. But I think they will give you a credit if you return (QVC is a pain about getting defective things back.). The item is still being offered and it is interesting the text only identifies the stones as turquoise, so I think they are trying to pass the yellow stone as turquoise. I did have a gorgeous approx 30" Jay King multi stone (large shaped beads) necklace that had a couple of limey green accent stones (polished even color throughout, not like yours) and the stones developed brown spots. Nothing that would peel off, and admittedly, I just let it go. I am sure the necklace is around somewhere. It wasn't an expensive necklace (maybe around $60), and the oher stones were common. This was many years ago. I liked the necklace a lot, and I remember looking to see f I could find replacement stones, but never saw them offered again. I have seen turquoise change color, and I figured it was something like that. Don't rremember what the limey colored stone was called.

I had pieces i love from this lane, and few pieces that were awful. There is nothing in between. The rep is fine, he did not seem to be engaged much. May be it was a long day for him, sitting in a magnifying loop looking building.
TSV wIth fire opal, anniversary style were horrible. Thin metal, scratchy, stones of uneven size and color. Awful.
But i have his earrings and couple rings i love. Excellent stone cut, bright color.

Quality or not, I really couldn't say, but I can say that to me, most of the designs have no appeal. I like many opaque gemstones, but the way he combines them and the overall designs are rarely attractive.

@stevieb Have you noticed the ring he sells that looks like a marble mounted on a base? It has tiny prongs which couldn't possibly hold it, which means it's glued in place on a rim of metal. Just a matter of time until the glue dries out and the marble rolls away. I believe this ring was the TSV last July on Gem Day.

He made a comment yesterday during his spiel that he'd made a "commitment to quality". I laughed uproariously.

Generation Gems seems to be the evolution of a family mining business branching into the jewelry business. They certainly know their diverse stones, no question.

QVC seems to be focusing a lot on lower budget gemstones. Gone are the day of gold sleeping beauty turquoise rings for less than $300.00--now they are sky high in Vault Discoveries for over $3000.00!! (And the diamonds still seem to be the same mediocre quality.)

I am not an expert on semiprecious or regular stones, so I do not know all the ways that stones are enhanced or stabilized, and what daily wear or water or anything else might do to damage the stone. One time I bought a cheap turquoise necklace from Jay King, and all the turquoise nuggets crumbled to dust after a few years. I rarely buy silver because I am too lazy to polish it, and it is also a soft metal.

Now I try to stick to a few luxury jewelry purchases-- only gold, only nice quality diamonds, great price on sale.

However, for those starting their collections or for those who want a variety of economical fun items to wear, I think Generation Gems serves its purpose!

@Kachina624 I know the ring you reference and have likened it to an old fashion gumball. I had the show on today while doing other things and without volume and was not at all wowed by the vast majority of the pieces offered that frankly, to me, looked rather unimpressive.
