HEAVIER JAI PIECES

I noticed in the last JAI shows, his braceelts, rings, etc. sem to be bulky and more heavier looking than usual. I thought the jewelry look is more delicate now...especially when most are staying close to home.

Anyone else notice the changes in styles and sizes?

@Shanus - Jewelry is definitely a personal preference - there's no right or wrong. This past summer, I ordered my first bracelet and a ring by Jai - both substantial, and I really like them. To each their own.

For me, the heavier the better. That usually means that more silver has been used and is better quality. I just like the feel of heavier pieces.

I've never felt that JAI jewelry was particularly feminine. Pretty enough, but not what I think of as feminine.

He has been coming out with some different substantial pieces. I like the line but I will only purchase when they are on sale or free shipping. I only have a few but the ones I do have I love.

A heavier look is definitely my preference.

As I cleaned out my long-time NY life over the last few summers, I sold or donated almost everything delicate, and now I need to do that same thing with my current residence.

I wear so little jewelry nowadays, I don't plan to buy even something inexpensive until I can safely add public time to my new normal.

QVC shows what sells. Heavier silver sells. Silver is still relatively cheap. Many buyers for 40-60 grams get snapped up. I have one cuff that's 58 grams. Two smaller bangles by Ultra Fine together on one wrist weighs 90 grams.

@Shanus - I have thought that the sudden explosion of more delicate looks in jewelry was driven more by the increase in silver and gold costs and a desire for greater profit margins, than an actual desire of the public for less silver and gold in their jewelry items.

I love my more substantial pieces from a time years ago when designers did not skimp on the amount of silver and gold in their pieces. Of course, one could certainly question the use of jewelry at this time when people are being discouraged from socializing with friends. Historically, though, there have always been those who appreciate delicate and smaller scale looks in their jewelry and those who desire higher impact looks from their jewelry. I guess I leaned more toward the more heavy weight pieces. I miss those days, and I appreciate Jai jewelry, because they do use a lot of silver in their items, even now.

I appreciate jewelry with heft and jewelry that's more delicate. There's too much beauty in the pool to play with, so why get locked into any one style or weight? There are days I prefer a more minimalist look and others when I want to haul out the bolder pieces.

Part of it also depends on the weather. We have extremely hot and humid summers and I spend a good deal of that time outdoors, so the last thing I want to do is have a 50-60 gram bracelet hanging off my wrist, no matter how beautiful it is.

There will always be market motivations and other forces at play in what's made available and what's worn. This same "skimping on weight" observation has been made numerous times and always will be. Ann King, for example, started out with heavyweight pieces but also introduced more delicate items at the same time. They all carried her asethetic, and that's all that mattered to me--then and now.

You know me and how I love the big cats, but that multi-leopard line bracelet was a little too many leopard heads for me. The leopard bangle has an elegance to it that this new bracelet did not--at least at first look. But I'd still like to see reviews on it and might change my mind!

Secretly, I yearn for a JAI cheetah.

And if Scott ever decided to do a baby harp seal enhancer, or cuff, or even ring, I would just go bonkers.

I still regret a diamond simulant baby harp seal ring that Victoria Wieck made for HSN several years ago that I did not purchase. It was so very, very adorable with its big black eyes, and chunky face and body.

I like Jai, but I am not too big of fan of animal jewelry. They are cute, but it is hard to make them fit in regular outfits.

Jai has the best jewlery boxes, and the best packaging of all lines.

I like his rings, chains and earrings, not bracelets. I found that bangle tarnish terribly n Seattle, and it is impossible to clean them.

His chains are very Yurman like.

I agree with the comment, it is not a super feminine line. I like Jai stories and meaning behind the pieces.

I don't like the heavier pieces. Don't like to feel the bracelet on my wrist. And they get in the way.

@alice87 I wear absolutely no prints in clothing, hate them, so I have no trouble fitting animal jewelry in; my jewelry is THE accessory. But I get what you mean: to each her own.

It might make sense, since I like too much colors. I have croco mama piece and It is so hard for me to find what to wear it with.

I remember the green onyx was sold out, so I got turquoise, still puzzle me, I am thinking about changing the stone to make it work.

@Jersey Born I think you are right. I am hearing people say that silver is going through the ceiling because of its many useful applications, and some speculate it will be more expensive than gold which is usually an ornamental application whereby silver is used in industry as well as ornamentation.
