Does Etsy have any protection for the buyer?

I've been an Ebay buyer for years because of the protections they have for the buyer if someone pulls something on you. How is Etsy?

@depglass Yes they do. You should be able to contact them with any issues on a tab with each listed purchase. They will even suspend someone's shop if they find grounds to do so

I tried to purchase a household item on Etsy this past summer. Seller never shipped the item. Etsy refunded me. The seller didn't respond to my messages in any satisfactory way.

I always have good experiences with Etsy. One time I ordered a gift for my sister with several items in it. One was broken. The seller refunded me my money and my sister could keep the other items.

No. Not in any useful way.

They allow you to file a complaint and engage the seller, but do nothing.

I ordered a pricey amber ring. Turns out it was coming from Poland. It never came. The Seller admitted it had no proof of delivery. Etsy just asked the Seller to do the right thing.

On the other hand, I am never again ordering from another country, since the handmade USA products are all lovely.

If you can pay with Paypal, you have their protection.....noy sure if all Vendors accept it though...

1Professor gave the most useful answer in my opinion. I don't care what any company's stated policies are, what counts are actual users' experiences. I remember the infancy of Ebay when people were getting stuck left and right. There were cases of scammers making $5,000 on bogus car transactions. I remember a story on Oprah about "wingless Beanie Babies," supposedly a rare item from the company. Someone just ripped the wings off and charged someone $1700.

Yes, absolutely they do. I buy most of my items on Etsy.
