PACKING UP OUT OF DATE PIECES

I have a peg board hanging on the wall inside my closet. It’s covered w/ huge, colorful statement necklaces. I haven’t worn them in at least 2 yrs. I haven’t noticed them being sold in stores either.

This afternoon’s project is packing them up in bubble wrap and storing them in a clear bin on a closet shelf.

Everything comes back in style...usually AFTER I’ve donated mine. 😜

I recently donated a huge amount of unworn jewelry to my local animal rescue for their silent auctions.

This past Friday, I attended one of their events and laughed to myself when I saw lots and lots of my items out for bid.

One very large turquoise necklace looked especially beautiful. My husband asked if I wanted it, and then I really laughed.

I had to confess it was a donation along with most of the jewelry on the table! Fortunetly, none of the items were gifts from him.

I have also donated some of mine especially necklaces. I’ve worn very few of my necklaces since I retried so figure I might as well do something with them while I can make the decisions myself. Sometimes I forget what I have which is a sign I have too much! LOL.

@Shanus I have exactly the same in my bedroom against the wall space behind the bedrm door. LOTS of fun, lovely, colorful fashion necklaces and some matching bracelets hanging on hooks. I HAD to because I have SO many pieces mostly from my working years. Nowadays if I pull from this collection I need to 'dust' it off!!! I won't part with any of these pieces because I love them all still!

It would be so fun to compare pieces with you Ms Shanus!

A woman down the street had a yard sale a few weeks ago so I asked her if I could bring some stuff I had, a bunch of costume jewelry mostly that I haven't worn in eons. I told her just to keep the money if any of it sold and that I didn't want the jewelry back either. She was happy with that and I never went back. I was just happy to get it out of my house.

My biggest neck piece sits in the bank. A 38 gram 18K Omega. One to the big honkers of the last century (it seems) Maybe if I ever have a grandaughter, then perhaps one day it might even come back in style.

@songbird I inherited 2 humongous gold rope chains 36” from my mother...Mr. T would be envious. Into the melt and sell pile.

I’ve donated a lot of costume jewelry to our local theatre group. Didn’t realize they’d need it for costumes, etc.

I wear mine. To me this is a classic and something that is far beyond statement necklaces and other items that are fads and go away.

I don't look at jewelry like that. I don't think jewelry goes out of style in the same way that shoes or clothing go out of style.

I get rid of jewelry mistakes. Fashion pieces I never should have purchased or at least should have returned. I take them to a local consignment store and do very nicely.

@KentuckyWoman I spend very little on fashion jewelry...maybe $20 on a necklace (wait for sales). Good for you to get some return on money spent. I wouldn’t do well.

I donate a lot of things, but I do not donate jewelry. Call be selfish but any unworn or unloved jewelry I sell to US GOLDBUYERS and reap the benefits.

I wear it if I love it. I don't care if its supposedly out of style. I still love a gold or silver omega chain with an enhance on it. I have so much jewelry. I too keep a lot of it on hooks in my closet. When I put on my outfit, I choose a piece. For day to day, I wear a Judith Ripka bracelets, rings and a neck chain. Earrings too. The more understated pieces for every day. I'm never without my jewelry. If I go out to lunch or dinner I'll wear something more showy. I am selling some pieces off though because I have so so much. I sell it on ebay and make a tidy income stream.

@chrystaltree I’m referring to costume jewelry. I don’t see anyone wearing huge earrings or statement necklaces. That’s what I packed up. It seems what’s in stores now are fake fine chains with a pendant to be worn alone or in multiples. My good jewelry has no age...I wear what pieces I like whether anyone else does or not.

@lulu1 Oh, I’d never donate my real pieces of jewelry either. I sell the metals and stones...I donate costume jewelry only.

I am fortunate to have a designer consignment shop near me. Owner told me they have customer lists they call when new jewelry comes in. Brought in my no longer wearing JRipka; BBixby; CPollack. (Since retirement my lifestyle has changed). All sold & it paid for a nice trip to Door County.

IMO jewelry unless it's a wedding band can look dated. I inherited so much gold jewelry from my MIL that was so dated looking, I sent it into cash for gold. Good costume jewelry made in the USA is harder to come by these days so I kept that and jade pieces.
