is ebay still the place to sell personal jewelry or not?

It's been years since I have browsed ebay regularly or sold anything on there, so ladies please get me up to speed about where to sell jewelry.

I own way too much and want unload some old sterling pieces from mostly shopNBC/Evine, HSN very few QVC items. Most in excellent like new condition so I don't think a garage sale at home is a good idea.

Are other newer sites like poshmark, etsy a better venue for jewelry items or is ebay still the best for the type of pieces I want to sell?

My sister in laws friend sells jewelry on line and has done quite well. She goes to yard sales and flea markets. It is easy to package up and send. Good Luck!

You could also take it to a jeweler and consign the items.

I sold diamond jewlery that I grew tired of on Ebay without any problems at all. Ebay charges 10% and paypal charges 2.9%. I also insured each piece when I mailed it and required a signature confirmation. I sold for about 2 years and it worked out fine for me.

I have also bought very nice jewelry from certain vendors on there that have a 100% rating.

Over the years, I have sold many pieces of jewelry on ebay and still feel this is the best way to go, even with the fees. (We took the pieces to jewelers that buy for gold and silver content, and even they told us we were better off trying to sell it on our own.) Do your research to see what pieces have sold for as well as if there are the very same pieces you have for sale right now. One more piece of advice ~ buy some jewelry sticky tags to attach to your items and mark the tags in some such way that you will know they are your pieces. I have had buyers try to pass off "used" jewelry in exchange for my "new" pieces. With each person that tries to scam you, you learn something and how to hopefully prevent it the next time. I was never scammed when I sold on Ebay so I was lucky. That is sad that buyers did that, who could imagine? I agree it is the best way to go and you can figure in the shipping and fees into your asking price.

@ECBG I’ve done well with consignment and sometimes just take pieces apart and sell metal and stones separately.

Yes, I think selling personal jewelry on eBay is a great idea. I've done it and did well. A family friend sells on Poshmark, but they take 20% off the top - and I think eBay is much easier and a better profit.

Personally I prefer Etsy, especially for vintage jewelry.Also you can email the vendor thru Etsy and in my experience the vender replies to you in a hour or less.I have purchased reborns dolls ,jewelry and jewelry making supplies and I have never had a issue. To me Etsy is more hands on than eBay. Also the feedback from previous buyers is a plus. I have ordered jewelry(Lagos) in the past and the seller shipping was quick,but eBay to my knowledge does not offer buyers feedback.

@GRACIE : EBay does show a seller's feedback and I always add my feedback. Additionally, I frequently contact sellers and offer a lower price. Even if they don't sell it to me at my offer, frequently we enter into negotiations that result in a better price for me (and a sale at a fair price for me).

Before listing, I would search for similar items, see how they are presented and what it sold for. You may be disappointed.

Unless your items are something special, like Southwest silver for example, you won't get much for it.

I buy from Etsy and Ebay all the time. Yesterday, I received a Robert Lee Morris new pair of earrings, having price tag on, being in original box w/bag. I trust both places and agree there is a better one on one conversation w/Etsy.

I buy and sell on ebay and now Poshmark. I sell way more on ebay but you could try Poshmark, its easy. I just listed a bunch of rings that I love but are too small for me on ebay and Posh in a size 10. They are in good condition, but many are quite old. I just sold a diamonique ring for forty dollars on ebay so it all adds up. Yes its simple to pack up. I save boxes and poly bags from other things I've bought and just re use them. I also sell purses, shoes and clothes, mostly stuff I've bought on the Q or HSN. Mostly plus sizes, like Susan Graver, etc. I've never gotten scammed ever. I buy most of my J. Ripka on ebay for less than it was offered for.
