Green Amethyst

I don't own any and hard as I try I can't stop thinking about buying something. Is it really washed out when it's less expensive, can you even see the green? I understand that it's not a dark stone, but I don't want it to look clear either.

I found these earrings on Overstock of all places and thought they were beautiful

When it comes to prasiolite, the smaller the stone the less saturated the color. So if you want to see actual 'light leek green' color then choose bigger stones....a few carats in size at least.

The prasiolite that I bought years ago was very pretty but it scratched easily. After a few months it looked awful and I junked it.

@Greeneyedlady21 I should have added that pear-shaped anything is my favorite and you would probably have no problem with earrings getting scratched.

These are very beautiful, feminine, well made earrings. Green amethyst is prasiolite. It is really clear, translucent, pale green stone. Just one particular mine in Brazil produces better ones. Michael Valetutti explained i5 some years ago. By the way his praseolites are pretty saturated,if you like his designs.. It is actually perfect spring pastel stone!

I don't know how many carats Kate's various green amethyst earrings are. But they sure are beautiful and I love the color

Some aquamarine gems are this color. They are rare and very expensive.

Some from Ross Simons. They have some rings in high carat weights that I would never wear. But I do like this last one, it's 4. something carats. The earrings are amazing, love them.

Love those checkerboard cut stones @Greeneyedlady21 . I think that kind of cut for most quartz gems really makes them come alive.

@SilleeMee I agree. Looking at the prasiolite I would want checkerboard cut. It looks prettier.

I can't believe some of the jewelry on Overstock. Look at this aquamarine ring. 3 and 1/8 carat in white gold. $625. LOVE. Seems way too good to be true. One review, 5 stars.

I've had green amy as well as sold it. It's part of the quartz family. Any "sheer" stone like green amy, blue topaz or the like will eventually absorb soap and will turn milky like a creamsickle. It can't be steamed out. The stone is damaged.

I have a few prasolite pieces that are of a very good size and the color is a lovely, soft, minty green----love them. My fav is a 1 1/2 inch long crystal that has a swirly, shiny, sterling silver around it as the setting---it is so pretty

Respectfully posted @ECBG that may be "diffused" stones certainly not all sheer stones. I have owned many blue topaz and aquamarines over the years and not one of them have turned milky. I worked for Tiffany's and full disclosure would be mandatory if that were the case, Never once did I see anyone with an issue with milky stones.

I don't consider myself an expert, but I've owned plenty of amethysts and one praisiolite over the years. Also more blue topaz in various shades than I care to count (my favorite stone). Not one of them has absorbed anything, all are clear and have not picked up scratches. If a stone acts like this I would question its authenticity. Worth a trip to the jewelers just to settle your curiosity.
