two turn offs

Okay, I don't come here much but I've got to complain. When I see "Black Rhodium" or "White Topaz," I just pass. I find the rhodium does nothing to help the gems especially the inexpensive "colored" diamonds. White Topaz is fine as a stand alone stone but the rings that have with used as accents start to look bad after a time. Is this just me? I prefer just the metal color or for accents how about white zircons?

I don’t care for rose gold because it tarnished. By the way, it was jewelry bought from JTV and not the Q.

this is just my opinion. some people just don't want a "fake" stone, and would rather have the white topaz no matter the look. I know people who would rather have a "affordable" super ugly diamond, than a moissanite, or cz set in 14k. it's so when their friends ask them if its real they can say yes.

when you are talking about affordable/budget jewelry, the real diamonds, are ugly color, and included. easy to spot.

Fake diamonds... white zircon... white topaz... white whatever... I don't think everything requires a diamond simulant to have appeal...

@artycat. I won't buy a stone with white topaz accents. They have no "life" in them whereas white zircon sparkle like a diamond. A zircon set as a solitare easily passes for a diamond, not a topaz.

I'd take a good Swarovsky crystal over a white topaz for accents

Topaz just looks like a piece of glass.

White sapphire is nice.

nothing wrong with zircons, either.

I love black spinel.

Bought a bracelet like this one at Sam's Club, it's stunning.

I'm with you @stevieb. I'm sooooo weary of some kind of white stone always being part of a design. How many "halo" pieces can you have before it gets old? Diamonds, topaz and zircons are all very nice but I don't want or need them on EVERY piece. Oftentimes, another poster pointed out, the white stones included are gray, dull and add nothing to the piece but add to the price.

I wonder why white sapphires don't get more use? They're beautiful, although certainly more expensive than a white topaz. I'd go for them in heartbeat!

Rose gold has become one of my favorites and I'm sorry to hear yours was tarnished. Was it rose-gold plated? Unfortunately the plating eventually wears off. Depending on your particular body chemistry it can wear off sooner than later too. I am the same way with any gold plating. A gold plated necklace will turn on me very quickly.

I am not a fan of clear stones - diamonds, zircon, white topaz - no matter. I prefer colored gems without clear accents.

I do like black rhodium tho and love rose gold.

I don't care for the black rhodium, I like rose gold if it doesn't have too much copper in it. As far as fake diamonds, I love Diamonique and I would rather have that than a poor quality diamond. Well made jewelry is valuable and appealing to me no matter if the stones are real or faux.

I like black rhodium with dark-colored gems like black spinel or with red gems like red garnet or ruby.

As far as white topaz accents...most colorless accent stones are so small anyway that I hardly notice a real difference between them. It's the larger topaz solitaires that I can see a rather big difference in sparkle from a real diamond, a Moissanite or a strontium titanate...even a cz out sparkles a larger topaz gem. Topaz has a much lower refractive index than both a diamond or cz.

Most of JTV's rose gold is 10k. It will tarnish unless the gold is properly made. J rarely goes for high quality so I would expect it to tarnish. I don't buy much from J because of that.

I love rose gold but stick to 14k. There are a lot of places where you can get 14k rose gold for less than Q offers. Sarraf and Jewels For Me are just two of them. Just be careful with JFM's pendants. Most are pretty tiny. But they offer 14k leverback earrings in white, rose and yellow gold and lots of gems! I prefer leverbacks to any other style.

I like white topaz (crystal quartz?), but not as a substitute for anything. I have a beautiful Peter Thomas Roth checkerboard stone that I love.

I also like black rhodium when it's used to create an edgy look.

I have learned to never say never. You never know...

(I do agree that the halo thing is so over. And I really have no use for "accent stones." Just leave the honker alone in all it's glory.)

A few years ago, they sold a lot of Drusy here. Some of it looked pretty, but never tried it. Also, they sold gold in colors like blue, green. Wasn't sure so I passed.

I have some rings with white sapphire as accent stones. Very sparkly. Purchased at the old ValueVision.

Oh wow--I had (mercifully) forgotten about that fad the Q went through with all kinds of God-awful colors of gold; that was pretty bad and I noticed it was over pretty soon. Same with Drusy; no matter how hard QVC pushed it (and they pushed it hard) it didn't go over very well and vanished quickly.

I have no problems with rhodium when it on a cluster ring or somehow highlights the center stone. As far as accents are concerned I'm not very particular about white topaz or zircon but I find white topaz looks better as baguettes.

This is just my own only slightly educated on gems opinion, but I think you can get good and poor quality in diamonds, zircons, and topaz when used as accent stones. If I could live my working life over again I would have taken GIA courses and worked in jewelry.
