ALOR JEWELRY ON Q

Now I see what happened to our often requested Steel by Design. ALOR, which is exclusive to QVC, is stainless jewelry.

The big difference? While Steel by Design was affordable, ALOR is at the $375-$600 price range. I have no idea why for steel, but I will not be purchasing.

Wow.... I've never been fond of stainless steel jewelry because it's a different color (to me) and I wear off any plating. but I've purchased Steel by Design. I still have the first watch they offered (looks like a Cartier and it still looks wonderful) but will not invest that kind of money in Stainless when I can buy 14k gold instead....

@Q4u Stainless steel is not plated. It’s considered a noble metal on its own. It’s used on designer watches and watch bands like Rolex.

Oh NO! I LOVED the steel by design line. I have allergies to some jewelry (including Judith Ripka's sterling silver) but the steel I could wear.

Yes. I enjoy stainless jewelry, but not that much.

It works for me primarily as I work outside and most sterling tarnishes/scratches too much for my liking (aside from a few pieces that I allow to accrue that patina of "wear"). I mean, the jewelry takes a beating. I should just rethink my chosen vocation . . . the body takes a beating, as well.

Anyway, I will stay tuned to the stainless steel saga here at the Q.

@Shanus Yes! I recorded last night's show and watched it this morning. I was floored when I saw that it was stainless steel, and......the prices! OMG, steel is such an inexpensive metal.....only a mere fraction of the cost of silver. The major cost is in the manufacturing, since it has such a high melting temperature. Over at Shop LC they have their own steel jewelry manufacturing facility in India. Even with the cost of building that facility, their steel jewelry prices are less than 1/10 of what this line is charging!

My jaw dropped @2blonde! Yes, maybe inexpensive special equipment...it’s difficult to cut also because it’s so hard, but we’re not talking diamond cutting here. There’s no reason for that jewelry to be so high.

I’m wondering what’s happening w/ Q’s jewelry.....such high prices for nothing!

I understand, I was talking about those stainless steel items that have some gold plating on them.... as decorative areas or even to make the item "look" gold or rose gold.

I saw part of the ALOR show this morning I laughed my butt off. Seriously? What fools do they think we are....$400, $500 for stainless steel???? Although as hubby said, at those prices they don't have to sell much at all to make a profit.

@Shanus Because steel is so hard, it's not cut for jewelry, it's cast metal. In order to do that, it has to be heated to a much higher temperature that other metals in order for it to liquidate. It does require special equipment, but as I mentioned, Shop LC has managed to do it in their own facilty at a very reasonable cost to us!

@Q4u Oh, that gold plating....Yuck (a professional jewelry term. lol)! The gold plated on stainless steel was never the real shade of any gold I’ve seen....

@chrystaltree ....or hopefully sell none, discontinue the line and bring back affordable steel.

I had that watch and it was my favorite. It does look like a Cartier. It has real 18k gold around the face. I lost it last year and am still heartbroken.

I had that watch and it was my favorite. It does look like a Cartier. It has real 18k gold around the face. I lost it last year and am still heartbroken.

I am SO sorry you lost it! Mine's packed away (we're selling our house).... and I'm in the mood to wear it. Maybe you can find one on eBay??

Alor is not exclusive to QVC. The brand has been around for a long time. Bloomingdale’s carries it. Maybe the specific designs are exclusive.
