RIPKA’S DIAMONIQUE FACETS

I’m no longer a fan of JR jewelry since the pieces became larger and too “formal” for my lifestyle.

I have noticed that she’s using 118 facets in her Diamonique stones. Especially in a single stone ring or pendant, it gives it an artificial flash of shine that’s not found in actual diamonds.

What do you think?

@Shanus. "Formal" is a good description for JR jewelry. I like a more organic, craftsman sort of look so I've never been a fan of her creations. I also don't like Diamonique regardless of the faceting.

Most of her jewelry is gaudy at best. I laughed at the clasp on the TSV. Fine jewelry combined with diamonds in a bracelet would rarely if ever have a lobster claw clasp.

....not to mention ridiculously high prices for silver or gold plated w/ man-made stones.

I think her TSV bracelet is pitiful. It is so small that you would have to stack the bracelet so you could get some shine. I was never a fan of JR jewelry. Very formal looking to me. I was a big fan of Michael Dawkins. Really miss him. Merry Christmas!

@Katcat1 I agree. I loved Dawkins. The 14K gold plated on TSV is more 18K yellow color...Those who purchase it hoping to wear it with their 14K bracelets will definitely be disappointed.

I only have one "by the yard" style necklace from Ripka that has the 118 facets, and I think the stones are really pretty. The stones are pretty small, so I don't think the fact that they are not the traditional 57-facet cut is really noticeable.

In all fairness @QsMom, I said rarely not never. Back when I worked for them, we rarely if ever would use cost cutting measures to keep the price down. I doubt any Tiffany merchandise that would be sold as Estate Jewelry, you would find that type of clasp being used in a diamond bracelet. It has always been considered less desirable in the Jewelry Industry. Lobster claw clasps just detract from the continuity of the design. Maybe a gold bracelet it would have been used but the diamond bracelets I remember Never had a lobster claw clasp.

@QsMom. To each his own. I would not purchase or wear a diamond bracelet w/ that clasp. The lobster claw may be strong enough, but the “ring” it goes into is not...Besides, it cheapens the look of the bracelet, IMHO.

Hi @Shanus. I worked there many years ago. I loved it and met so many different people....some famous people walked through our doors. My specialty was diamonds. Back in those days it was unheard of for Tiffany's to carry solitaires below a VS clarity. Those days are long gone. I also remember you could purchase sterling silver jewelry very reasonably.

To each her own. I don't expect a diamond bracelet clasp on a non-diamond bracelet...I'm not trying to fool anyone. Sometimes I like a more petite, understated look in fine or faux--fine looks -- someimes bold. I admit larger organic pieces, unless with clean, contemporary lines, often wear me more than I wear them. My first love is gemstones but ones that sparkle set in a contemporary aesthetic. A customer of Judith's couture and Q lines, I've come to appreciate her eye for quality stones, even if some her style in metalwork gets fussy.

But this is the beauty of jewelry. We all look at it through different lenses of appreciation, of like and dislike, to find our own joy.

P.S. I'm an author, and work on a computer. I always wanted to own a Tiffany sterling pen, a symbol of my work, the way I started out. Overpriced? Probably. Foolish to others? I'm sure. Are there finer writing instruments on the market, more beautifully designed ones on the market? Of course. But in weight and coolness in my hand as I glide the words across the paper, it has no equal in my heart.
