Joan Rivers Jewelry

Today I was looking at my pieces of Joan Rivers jewelry that I got some years ago. It's still in great, near-new condition. My favorites are a set of two staggered iridescent deep blue faux pearl necklaces. They look great on so many tops and especially with a slim denim or navy skirt.

There's also a set of faux oversized ivory beads of two different shapes and sizes; an unusual strand of "ivory" and ice blue beads, and a long, flapper like strand of tiny, sparkling faceted mult-colored beads. And a teal blue cabochon pin.

Finally, a couple of her trademark, bold, brightly colored watches with contrasting colored dials and straps-- fun!

What a great question!!

While I have many special pieces...............earrings, bangles, watches galore, I do have one early item that I treasure.

I believe Joan referred to it as "the book watch" ~ the mechanism is a small oval face which sits inside the goldtone 1 inch "book-like" piece. The "book" opens and the black suede band has an oval opening which is placed over the face ~ then the goldtone "book" is closed. There is an additional goldtone/pave piece which may be inserted over the face/band to dress up the look! Love it!!!!

I can "hear" Joan describing this piece ........probably with Kathy Levine : )

OMG I have a ton of her jewelry from years and years ago. The quality was exceptional then and when I showed my DH (I was going through all my jewelry and showing him some of the outstanding pieces I have from Joan, KJL and Nolan Miller) he could not believe how gorgeous they were and that they were costume. I have so many of her bees, mostly the ones with enamel, her "Chanel" necklaces with the leather wound through, matching bracelet and earrings - stunning and look exactly like the real thing. I have her A-D victorian necklace with all the enamel hearts, pins, earrings, bracelets, etc. I don't really get to wear most of them now but to me they are works of art and I enjoy looking at them. I have so many pieces of real and expensive jewelry but for some reason I love these pieces more.

Besides a couple of watches, I only have one piece of Joan's jewelry. It is a long necklace with 3 keys hanging from it. I completely forgot I had it, and when

I found it , it was in a pouch in perfect condition.

My favorite Joan Rivers jewelry items from some years ago are their brooches have a few amazing dragonflies that are so well made and so organic that remind me of Gaudí's Modernist art.

I have many of her dragonflies, too! Along with some beautiful KJL dragonflies! I pin them to a pillow I have on my couch....

Joans older 90s era jewelry was such wonderful quality. I haven't worn it in 20 years but I use to wear a piece practically every day. I wore a lot of suits and loved her pins on the collars and lapels. Can't make myself get rid of them.

Talk about coincidence. I came on here to comment about a piece of Joan's jewelry from years ago and the first thing I see is Oznell's thread.

I was going through some old jewelry with my granddaughter Lindsay and we came across Joan's Ladybug bracelet. Oh my, sheer perfection. Lindsay asked if she could have it because it is so pretty and well made. I had all intentions of giving her the bracelet along with any other piece her heart desired.

Getting back to the bracelet, it is absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail is incredible. This is not some flimsy piece of jewelry, it is quite heavy and the colors are vivid.

Thank you Joan, you are missed by so many of us.

I have only two bee pins, sorry I didn't purchase more. One that I have is all gold and quite large and if I am correct it is the first one she made in all gold. It has tiny pearls on the wings, emerald eyes, rhinestone upper body and the tail has a green cast. Absolutely beautiful.

I have Joan's heart earrings, with interchangeable hearts. They are still so pretty. Am going to have to get them out and start wearing them as they look brand new!

Thanks for reminding me that all my original JR jewelry purchases have a special jewelry box on a shelf in my closet...a place of honor. It's like a treasure hunt just to look through the pieces!!!

I have also pinned them directly onto the back cushion of the couch--where no one usually sits! I change them with the seasons.....fall and halloween being my favorites...

Thank you for this thread, guys. All the lovely comments about Joan's jewelry make me glad I have a drawer full. Have always felt guilty about having bought so much of it. But it's fun and beautiful, and so well made, what more could a girl want? I have several of her cameo pins. And bow pins which I love to wear during the holidays. Have there ever been more exquisite holiday brooches?

Lots of Joan's earlier quality jewelry here too. I had a min-disaster a few weeks back when I dropped (and stepped on with my big feet!) an earring....one of my favorites from Joan from a loooong time ago....silver and turquoise enamel stars with crystal centers. I think I remember she said Edgar bought her the originals in a London antique store. They are SO pretty and I am crushed....like that earring.Bummer. Add it to my one earring collection.
