Graduate gemologist Nancy

Watched a jewelry show a bit ago with her. It was gemstone jewelry, and I tend to watch jewelry and she was on at night when I tend to watch. I figure I can learn from a gemologist.

The item was a rutilated quartz ring. You don't see a lot of it, and I really like it. Might have considered one. Anyway, I was expecting the expert to explain more about rutilated quartz, as I don't remember too much about it. I have some black rutilated quartz earrings, but could use an jog of my memory!

I felt like she was disconnected from it somehow and really didn't EDUCATE the viewer about how it comes to be. Okay, no one is perfect, but this is supposed to be her expertise. Too much talking, very little information.

Go to JTV website and find an item from Paul Deasey and listen to his description about Rutilated Quartz.

Never cared for her or her selling style ... miss Peyton. Nancy cannot replace him - sorry - JMHO.

Good quick way to learn about rutilated quartz without dissing the host. Maybe she had an off night. Maybe she's not a quartz expert. You can read here, if your point is to know more and complain less. Now you can be an expert.:

Rutilated Quartz is not necessary to know about to become a GIA graduate. It isn't part of the curriculum.

Maybe that's it! I would still be CURIOUS about it if I had to go on television and talk about it. Since this host should be expected to have higher standards to report on jewelry, I expect it from her. Since she makes reference to her credentials.

Yes, we can all have a bad moment. However, with all her fast babbling, she should have learned about this before talking about it.

Personally I don't need to know how a stone is geologically formed in order for me to buy a piece of jewelry. I can look that information up myself. More import to me, however, is the stone's country of origin.

How long does it take to google rudilated quartz? Do it and viola, you're an expert.

I discovered this stone back in the '80s at the International Gem and Jewelry Shows. I bought several and had them wire wrapped to make rings. The trouble is that the only person who notices the rutile is the wearer. There is amazing variety in the stones.

I think Nancy mostly knows her stuff, she should be prepared to discuss the stones she's presenting.Nancy does seem off lately, maybe that's why they are hiring that Michele Lau to assist with gem presentations.

They also hired Erin Moseley's (DMQ Rep) husband as another gem "expert." I'd rather see Peyton on these shows.

Pretty much anything can be looked up. For me that's not the point. The host is there to give information about what they are presenting. Some information about the actual stone would be nice.

If the host isn't going to give pertinent information about the products they are presenting, why are they there? QVC might as well just pop items up on the screen with the price and we can go to .com and look up everything else.

If you need the host or vendor to explain about the stones I think Michael V on Evine gives the most information. It is so interesting to listen to him. He will tell you about the stone, where it came from, treated or not treated, what the inspiration is for his designs. Jay King on HSN gives a lot of information too. It is interesting to hear these things.
