Does anyone remember Black Hills Gold?

They used to have shows Memorial Day and 4th of July, I think. I still have a BHG bracelet. I think the vendor's name was Jim and he wore those crazy socks.

YES! I used to really look forward to watching those shows and I thought they were quite popular; wonder what happened? Was thinking of that this weekend and thought about starting a blog here to see what others thought. Thank you for doing so. I wish QVC would bring them back!!! Have several beautiful pieces from those shows I still wear!

I sure do. They always had shows on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. I have a watch and a couple of rings I purchased from that line. Still wearing them. I think QVC discontinued carrying the line several years ago. At least for on air presentations.

I still have BHG also that I do wear. One of my favorites is a pair of small earrings with several colors of gold and a bit of turquoise.

I can't remember why they ended their relationship with the Q and I also have no idea if their products are still in lots of souvenir shops in the Hills area - that's where I bought my first BHG ring in 1971.

I remember those shows too on the holidays mentioned. Seems it had become a tradition. I never did purchase, but remember the shows. QVC is so different now.

I think BHG was a bit old-fashioned for the younger set and was not selling well. A lot of people simply didn't care for it.

i have several pieces of Black Hills Gold jewelry that my DH purchased for me thru the years. He was from the Black Hills area originally and we both loved the pieces that they brought to the Q thru the years. I think he also enjoyed the shows because they would often show landscapes that he remembered and that brought back memories to him. I have several rings with green stones and one with pink. I really enjoy those. Sorry that they didn't remain with QVC. I would have loved to see more.

It hasn't even been three years since the last Black Hills Gold program on QVC with Jim Whittaker, so how could anyone forget? Black Hills Gold programs aired on QVC every President's Day, Memorial Day, Independance Day, Black Hills Gold Rush (July 27, 12-hour event), Labor Day, and Thanksgiving. This weekend would be the 29th Anniversary of Black Hills Gold Jewelry.

@Kachina624I agree - QVC needs to continue to sell to buyers, not just entertain watchers - and so many of the lamentations I see here about what QVC was talk about watching rather than buying. No wonder they are trying different ideas.

I can't think of much that they used to sell which has disappeared that I would be buying, BHG is one of those lines. I have what I want already.

I have two rings and a bracelet that I wear starting every June thru August. Its so pretty in the summer with a a nice tan.

I do remember. Perhaps the price of gold. If you remember the Q had a full day of gold shows... no more. So it is not just Black Hills Gold that has disappeared. And yes, the style, perhaps it is not as popular these days. I have a few pieces.

Over the years, I had bought a few pieces of Black Hills Gold when it was on QVC. I enjoyed watching the shows, and enjoyed Jim, the vendor also.

A couple of years ago, my husband and I visited the Black Hills area in South Dakota (went to visit Mount Rushmore) and there were many little shops specializing in Black Hills Gold, I bought a pretty cross at one of them. One of the ladies who worked in the shop where I bought the cross actually knew Jim...I mentioned to her that I used to watch the Black Hills Gold shows on QVC and mentioned his name also.

I do miss the shows, Jim was very informative and had a fun personality.

My late husband was from South Dakota and he gifted me with several really lovely pieces of BHG. It's not for everyone, but I love the rose gold roses that decorate the pieces he gave me. I still wear them even though I have remarried because they remind me of him in a happy way.

I do remember them and their vendor. He was fun to watch and I enjoyed the shows of an American made product on the American holidays. But no more -- I assume that the price of gold or maybe QVC just didn't think they were worth air time any more. After all, more time to devote to Wen and/or whatever other products we've seen ad nauseum instead of something unusual.

I have some very nice pieces that I bought from BHG and enjoy wearing. One of my favorites is a line bracelet with mother of pearl leaves. It is very pretty and unusual.

I'm wearing two of the BHG pieces I purchased from the Q right now -- a blue Hellenite Black Hills Silver ring and a silvertone stampato BHG watch that I also own in the goldtone.

The ring is the piece of jewelry that I have received the most compliments of any piece I own (and I own a LOT of jewelry). Young women and older women and even men notice the ring and want to know what the stone is. The stone changes from blue to violet depending on the lighting. They think that the ring is an antique because of the setting: dragonflies on the side facing me and facing out and silver flowers and a rose and a green gold leaf on each of the ring finger sides. I also love the ring and wear it frequently. I explain the origin of the stone -- ashes from the eruption of Mt. St. Helena.

So I also own some beautiful gold BHG pieces which I bought over the years, almost all from the Q shows which I loved and looked forward to every time they aired. I DO miss those shows!

The company that manufactured the BHG jewelry sold on QVC, Coleman, appears to no longer be in business. A few months back they sold their manufacturing building. They were accused of diverting employee contributions to 401K accounts to pay overdue bills and other debt. And employee paychecks were bouncing.

There used to be at least 4 or 5 companies that made BHG jewelry. I think Landstrom's is still in existence. Are any of the others still around?

A lot of stores around here used to carry BHG jewelry but I haven't seen it in years.
