Anyone here know much about peridot? Arizona vs Chinese peridot? Which one would you recommend? I know there are some Burma peridot pieces out there but that's out of my league. TIA

I like peridot because I believe it is one of the few untreated gemstones.

After retiring from teaching, then killing my sciatic nerve at Dillards, I went to Belk fine jewelry as you may have read. The gemologist and I became close and I learned as much as I could from her. I was there almost five years until I left because of a toxic person added to our team. I was thew second highest sales person because I studied all of the time.

Peridot is definately one of those semi precious stones thart will absorb soap when you wash your hands and become cloudy. This creates a chemical change and can't be changed. Clean with alcohol or windex only. Or, you can take the ring off when you wash hands.

(Google)Peridot olivine is mined in Arkansas, Arizona on the San Carlos Reservation, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico at Kilbourne Hole, in the US; and in Australia, Brazil, China,Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.

If you want the top, buy Levian. They have the deepest mines in the world with the best color and highest trade in value. Unless bought on clearance, the main stone is guaranteed for life and you will get papers.

The inside of Levian is beautiful. Of course try to go for a larger main stone and fewer on the band which, of course are worth less. This is just one of the rings, not necessarily the best.

Great color peridot on this ring.

I am not a big fan of peridot, although it is my birthstone. I am trying to like it.

As above post mentioned, the peridot come from variety of mines. The lighter peridot come from China, and it is the most unattractive color. The Burma and Hymalayan peridot are expensive, Afgranistan peridot is more darl too, and the color difference is distinctive between the mines. Bigger sizes peridot are expensive.

It's my birthstone but I don't think it's pretty. Of course, unlike some months, August has fewer 'alternatives', with the few offered not much preferable or hard to find... I prefer a less saturated peridot to what I consider that unappealing pea-green color, which of course means a less valuable stone. I finally stopped trying to like the stone, as I'm never going to and there are too many beautiful gemstones out there to obtain one I don't like simply because of an 'accident of birth'.

@ECBG:Thank you, in advance for the useful information. I accidentally washed my peridot earrings with soap and water. I rinsed them immediately. Anyway, I ended up changing the gem because the peridots have visible inclusions.

@SilleeMee: The Chinese peridot is fine but the U.S ( Arizona) peridot has better color. ShopLC had a show last night debuting Arizona Peridot.

I watched LC's shows....all of the Arizona peridot shows! Ended up buying a couple pairs of hoops. That color and clarity is outstanding and I couldn't resist. I got the 3-stone hoops and also the smaller hoops with the round-cuts. Can't wait to get them. I've never seen it in person. Just from seeing it on tv, it looks brighter green than the China peridot which I own and it's okay. This Arizona peridot looks a lot cleaner, too.

I'll post a review when my hoops arrive.

My review: The stones are unbelievably clear and they sparkle. I've never seen a peridot sparkle like these Arizona stones. When the light hits the stones they have a vivid kiwi green flash. I love this color.

@perfumera De La Luz,Any semi transparent stone is soft enough to absorb soap. Blue topaz, amyethyst, all.
