Other than maybe your wedding ring, what piece of jewelry do you always reach for? Does it have special meaning to you?

My Dad's older sister (13 yrs. older than him), never had her own children. When I was born, she took me under her wing & treated me like a granddaughter. My Dad's mother passed away when he was 18 & overseas. My special aunt took me w/ her for mains & pedis, I went w/ her to the "beauty parlor", too. Her stylist put a few rollers in my curly hair w/ a hair net so I could sit next to her under the dryer and read magazines. We kept in touch and remained close even when I married and moved away. I wrote to her every day and visited often even though there was a lot of physical distance between us. When she passed away, she left me her huge jewelry box of costume jewelry that I used to play in since I was 5 yrs. old. As I looked through the pieces, trying them on and thinking about the beautiful times we spent together over 50 yrs., the bottom of the box came loose. Under all the costume pieces, she had hidden her beautiful pearls that I reach for often, a diamond pin, a pair of 4 ct. tw diamond studs (I wear these every day) and her wide gold & diamond wedding band. The band is 3 sizes too big for me & would be ruined to size it, so sometimes I wear it on a long gold chain. Any time I wear her jewelry, I think of how much she loved me. Even near the end of her life, I was in her thoughts as she hid her jewelry from the other nieces to be sure her Shanus could cherish it forever.

Sounds like you found a Pandora's Box. I have a strand of pearls my grandmother left me with a hand-written note that they were to go to me. I think I treasure the note more than the pearls. They broke on me twice. Now I never wear them.

I also have an emerald and diamond 14kt ring my Dad had made just for me. He picked out the stone, the setting, and more or less designed it. Though these two pieces are valuable in price, the fact that I was chosen to be the recipient means more to me than the value.

What lovely memories you have! I have a ton of jewelry but none with sentimental value. I had my great grandmother's hand engraved rose gold wide wedding band but it was taken in a burglary, as was my own band. So much for sentiment.

My family did not have a lot of expensive jewelry, but I did receive my mother's modest wedding set. I wear those rings as my right hand ring almost every day. I also wear the small diamond solitare necklace that was my first diamond gift from a man. That necklace is special to me as a token of that time of my life.

What a beautiful story and so well expressed. One can feel the sincerity and the heartfelt emotions coming through your words. You and your aunt were deeply blessed to have had each other; and now you have those memories and her treasured pieces to remember her always. To love and be loved is surely the greatest blessing of all.

Yes, I wear little jewelry and only those pieces that have special/symbolic mearning. ..gone of the days of Ripka purchases. I have a small pair of earrings that I luckily purchased from Evine in the old days when they sold 24K gold and the are in the shape of a phoenix bird...so perfect! I frequently wear a pendent inscribed with the whole text of the emerald tablet as a reminder (it is inscribed on the front and back with a small emerald in the center with symbols in gold around the outside...it is not large). It is a work of art as well as a sacred symbol to me. Fashion jewelry has no appeal for me....but for those who love it, wear in health and enjoy.
