I am usually doing the opposite but I have found that it is easier for them to add a size. Please remembe that you will be buying the gold for that extra size and that is pricey plus the labor. You still have to be concerned with the settings and type of prongs used, etc. It would be more budget friendly to purchase a ring the next size up and have the jeweler size it down. Bezel settings, channel set and shared prong settings will give you some problems. You need to find a very qualified jewelrer.

Yes you can resize the sterling silver probably. Does it have any gemstones in it? A jeweler would have to see it to tell you or you would have to describe it to find the answer.

Usually you can resize 1-2 sizes. When going up they have to add more silver or gold instead of stretching out or the shank of the ring would be to thin. They should not do stretching if you are going up more then a half a size.

I would be sure to find a jeweler who works with sterling. Gold is much easier to size. Also make sure the silver is not plated with another metal. Sizing down is always easier than up. Also you will pay for the extra metal and labor. I would try to buy a size up rather than down.

Not all jewelers work on silver. Also if your ring has a plating to retard tarnish this will be ruined when they size the ring. Depending on the type of plating it can ruin the whole look. Ask the jeweler before sizing what he or she thinks.

You would have to find a silversmith which are common here in NM, but fairly rare other places. if your ring has gemstones, you run the risk of cracking them due to the high heat needed to solder silver. Turquoise rings should never be heated; heat will destroy the stone. Occasionally you may find a jeweler with a laser welder. This is ideal because no heat is involved, but they're expensive and few places have them.

i have found it is better to buy one size larger if possible and have it sized down versus buying smaller and sizing up.

Yup.........and it also costs more to have a ring sized UP. Also, platinum is difficult to size because of its hardness..................

If it is 14kt gold is likely much easier. If it's silver you'd need to find a Silversmith to work with you. Gold over and/or vermeil I don't think so.
