Silver Experts?

Have a question for you. I've come across a couple of older silver bracelets, one from Mexico, and I cleaned the tarnish off with cleaner and polishing cloth. However, the one from Mexico still has some dark spots on the clasp which is a unique closure. It's a flat piece in which one end slides into the other. Any ideas why I can't get these spots off?

The Mexican jewelry may not be sterling silver. Is it marked .925? I bought a piece from Mexico and it tarnished. It was inexpensive and not real silver. There are websites that will warn you about this.

A jeweler or silversmith can put it on his polishing wheel and give it a super polish with polishing compounds. They will remove about anything unless the silver pitted, which acids like salad dressing will do.

maybe just that one individual spot is not silver, just some kind of metal.

Not 100% silver. Check the stamp too.

It wouldn't have been 100% silver in any event. Silver Bars are the purest you'll get at .999! So, what are you talking about @SharkE?

just saying maybe the clasp isn't made of silver why it's hard to clean, etc.

Best thing for you to do is to take it to be polished. Some Mexican jewelry (Southwestern Style) is oxidized. That's not going to come off.

Even sterling "pits"! You probably won't get it off. Think of them as love marks or angel kisses!

I love my Mexican silver, still have gorgeous earrings I bought on the beach over 30 years ago, that put todays earrings to shame. They are huge and well designed and stamped 925. Compare that to a purchase of RLM where the wire twisted and broke day one.
