Joan RiversAuction Catalog arrived today

Joan's jewelry, furniture, objets de vitrine are being auctioned off by Christie's in New York in June.

I pre-ordered the catalog and it arrived today.

O.....M......G!!!

Her taste was exquisite in jewelry. I just breezed thru it and the catalog is filled with gorgeous antique jewelry, antique furniture, and lots of antique objets de vitrine.

The furniture is not my taste but Joan sure had an appreciation for superb antiques.

The jewelry is just F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!!

I'm saving the page-by-page view for my bedtime reading tonight.

I recall so many times on QVC when Joan would introduce a reproduction of one of her items & she'd have the original piece to show. She did have some beautiful things.

go to christies.com and scroll down just a bit to where it says "Auctions" and you'll see a photo of Joan.

Click on that and there should be a place where you can "order catalog".

I pre-ordered this a couple of months ago.

Top of page had Buying choice, then Catalogues, then you have to select US $ category ... it is $50, cheaper than ,$75 I spent for Ringo's! Most sites have virtual .PDF versions but not taking the time go search for now. The catalogs are all color and expensive to make.

Thanks KathyLFan for clarifying the catalog purchase process.

Although you can see the items on their website that will be auctioned from Joan's estate, I wanted to have a hard copy catalog for my library.

I also have the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis auction catalog which is more like a book. My last catalog purchase (before Joan's) was Princess Margaret's estate. Christie's handled that also and the "catalog" consisted of 3 books -- 1 for jewelry; 1 for furniture; and 1 for other objects.

Yes, I would have loved Taylor's catalogs. Before the auction was held, I actually went on the site to order the catalogs but, at that time, they were $60 each. I believe there were 6 of them....1 for jewelry, 1 for clohes, 1, for furnishings, and I forgot what the rest were.

Gosh, now those catalogs are going for $1,000 for the set and around $300 individually. Oh well....

I do have her book "Jewelry" which shows a large collection of her more interesting pieces and she provide sthe provenance for each.

I could only find 1 Mackie gown - it's the one on the right in the first photo below. Auction estimate is $1500-$2500.

There were other gowns up for auction but surprisingly they did not list the designer. But there are also gowns by Oscar de la Renta, suits/jackets by Chanel and Valentino, etc.

I viewed the catalog this week on Christie's website. So many beautiful things, but what took my breath away was looking at the online items - jewelry in particular. The Victorian pins from London that she had copied for QVC brought back wonderful memories of Joan and Kathy. The Faberge pieces are magnificent. I'm waiting not so patiently for my catalog.

I miss Joan. It's still hard to believe that she's no longer with us.

I have the catalogue from the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis auction and I treasure it! I will have to add Joan's to my collection. Thanks OP for the heads up!

Are you kidding me? You have to pay for those catalogs? Looks like they're pretty pricey, too. Yikes! I can see paying shipping/handling, but $50 & up? Wow

Yes the catalogs can be expensive, it has hundreds of pages w with detailed color photography ... they're in business to sell the suction items after all! Those of you too cheap to buy it can view the beautiful online version.

This catalog was cheap compared to the Elizabeth Taylor ones, or the Ellen Barkin one, or Jackie Kennedy's.

Joan's catalog is 221 pages - almost like a book, but it's a soft cover. They have a bio of her life which takes up a bunch of pages with great photos.

There are full room photos of her apartment in NY showing where the furniture pieces were placed....so you can get a good visual of size and how auction furniture would look in a room.

There are beautiful photos of her Russian antique jewelry -- the Romanov pieces especially. With each piece, they list the provenance and description of what stones are in the piece. OMG....I don't understand why Melissa did not want to keep these pieces. In addition to being SO beautiful, the workmanship by the house of Faberge is incredible - not to mention the provenance.

All photos in the book are of excellent quality - crisp, clear, color. The paper quality of the catalog is also superb....it's not a cheap thrown-together catalog.

Christie's has to do lots of research to confirm the provenance of each item (if it's available) since they would be on the "hook" if they sold something that was stolen or fake.

All of that costs money which is why there's a cost for the catalog...the photographer, the research, the gathering of the items, the storage of the items (her apartment has sold so the stuff has to "sit" somewhere).

There is some jewelry that is shown online and people can actually partricipate in an online auction for those items.

Can't wait to find out how much the auction brought in.

Are her Faberge eggs listed in the catalogs? I am curious as to whether Melissa kept them. They seemed so precious to Joan I thought they might be something she would have kept. I looked online and didn't see them.

I don't recall that she had any Faberge eggs....are you referring to the tabletop ones? the ones that Malcolm Forbes accumulated (Lily of the Valley egg, Coronation egg, Red Cross egg.....etc)?

In any event, no, there are no eggs up for auction.

I may be wrong, but I thought she had said that her husband Edgar would give her Faberge eggs for different occasions. Maybe that was something else.
