I have 3 pairs of sneakers and other casual shoes that need washing.

The soles are filthy.

Should I just wash them separately? Should I put them in some type of bag?

I've washed slippers a number of times but I only wear them around the house, so the soles are clean.

Thank you!!

Then put in dryer. If it takes too long to dry you could also put them outside in the sun too.

I put mine in the washer with dirty throw rugs then let them air dry. I wouldn't put them in the sun because they might shrink.

Well heres my 2 cents worth, I would soak those soles in about an inch of hot soappy water, just to loosen up the dirt. like maybe over nite. then remove the shoes and scrub, if necerssary, then use the magic earser thingy. If its just the soles, no need for the washer/dryer.

I would never wash my athletic shoes. If I had mud on them, I'd wear them in wet grass to get that off. Expensive athletic shoes are typically not made for washing...I don't think. The bottoms will necessarily get dirty....they're shoes, after all. simple canvas keds might be ok in the washer but I wouldn't call those athletic shoes.

Clean the soles outside with a scrub brush either using your outside spigot or a bucket of water. After that, just wash them all together. I usually throw in a couple of old towels to help with the noise and cleaning of the shoes.

To address another poster's comment, most expensive athletic shoes can be easily washed. I have $160 runners in which I power walk, and they've been washed numerous times. I've washed my runners for as long as I've been running/power walking, which is decades. lol Afterall, serious athletes put their shoes through everything with rain, snow, muddy trails, etc. They are made to be tough! I don't remove the insoles when I wash them, either. (I don't buy special insoles, but if I did, I *would* remove them.) Just toss them in the washer and wash in hot water.

Here is where you have to do things "right." Don't dry your athletic shoes in the dryer or the sun! Remove any insoles so the shoe can properly dry. I usually set them flat to dry on our covered porch or in the garage.

I wash my running shoes all the time. Just remove the insoles and wash on a normal cycle (works fine in a top loader or a front loader). You can place paper towels or newspaper inside and set them out to dry. I dry mine without anything inside. Never put them in the dryer, the glue will run and discolor your shoes and it may also alter the fit of the shoe.
