Stretching leather

Has anyone tried the spray on leather stretchers with any success? I hve the wooden stretchers that go inside shoes, but I wondered if any of the spray ons worked.

I've used the shoe stretch spray and it worked great. I don't remember the brand name, but I bought a bottle from Amazon. It came in a little pump spray bottle. I sprayed the inside of the shoe really good and a bit on the outside. Then I put the wooden shoe stretcher in and cranked it open and let it dry over night. It worked fine. You just have to be careful that you don't stretch the shoe too much all at once, so I recommend to stretch the shoe a little at a time until you get the right fit. Hope that helps! 😀

Thank you so much! I have a pair of the original style boat shoes. The leather on them is quite thick, and I need to stretch them. I'm going to try the spray on stretcher.

Rubbing alcohol works.

You can stretch shoes using a store-bought shoe stretch liquid or spray, but rubbing alcohol mixed with water is just as effective and is far less expensive. You'll need to apply the alcohol mixture to the inside and outside of the shoes, especially at the points where the shoes are tight, and either wear your shoes or use a shoe stretcher to break them in.

@pprmntstx To really achieve any stretching, the stretchers need to be used with the spray. I don't use alcohol because it could bleach leather if it dripped. The stretchers need to stay in several days until the leather dries.

I have slightly wide feet after a full career standing to teach.

I also use stick on metarsal pads because the balls of my feet get very, very sore after standing for long periods. I like Zen Toes, amazon.

My family had this town's top fine shoe store from the first WW until 1980.

@pprmntstx If you get the shoe stretchers, be aware you have to "torque" them tightly.

Thank you so much for the post about rubbing alcohol. I used it for several days and my shoes are stretched perfectly! I'm surprised because they're Sebago boat shoes and the leather is very thick and stiff!
