BLACK OR NUDE SHOES?

I’m noticing hosts/vendors wearing nude shoes most of the time...even w/ black and dark slacks.

What do you think? Have a preference?

If I am wearing black slacks or a black dress, I always wear black shoes. Just my preference.

personally, i would never wear nude shoes with black slacks. maybe a new trend?

Good Morning @Shanus - My preference is a nude when wearing a dress or skirt as it definitely elongates the leg. However, I prefer a black shoe (or dark shoe) when wearing pants or jeans, but only sometimes.

As with everything else, there is no real rule or guideline. For just about every outfit I wear I'll try both, and it really depends on the particular item you're wearing. Many times, if the black shoe is strappy enough it will win over the nude. I hope I'm being clear.

What are you're thoughts?

Many, many years ago, I watched an interview with Ginger Rogers. Now, you may be too young to know who she was, but she was a dancer.

During the interview, she was asked how she made her legs look so long and lean (she wasn't a tall person). She said that she always wore nude shoes. Never wore anything else. I've never forgotten that interview, and when I see someone wearing nude shoes I always think of that interview.

@fitfuninformed I had always thought black was the way to go, but heard Amy say one night that black shoes make the outfit look “heavy”...guess she meant bottom heavy. I guess that could be in summer if pants were Capri length or wearing a long skirt, but dark pants? Of course, winter is black boots, no question there.

@Georgiagrama Of course I know who Ginger Rogers is! Fred Astair's long time entertaining partner - although I never saw the interview of which you speak, I do recall only seeing her wear nude, silver/metallic or otherwise neutral footwear. Actually, I believe most stage/ tv /move entertainers know to do this.

Ginger's great! I believe also that she was explaining the long-held fashion dictum that anything that "lengthens the line" makes you look taller and also, as a side benefit, slimmer.

If the leg is nude, a shoe that approximates that color, (whatever that is) does that, very nicely. If the leg is navy (as in navy tights) then a navy shoe performs the same function. There's no "break" so the eye keeps traveling and thinks everything is longer and leaner...

I'm only 5'3", so I like the principle! Although I don't stick to it exclusively....

Just received a nude pair of nude sandals today. They are earth Sandals. Love them and they are comfortable. Will wear them all summer. With black pants I will have to try them and see what I think.

I don't either. I don't like the way they look on me or anyone else. I always think the total look seems unfinished. Not a fan.

A few years ago while wearing a nude for me ballet flat an elderly guy stopped me to say that from a distance he thought I was walking down the street in my bare feet, lol.

Depends on the outfit, but I could honestly go either way....provided there are no ankle straps! JMO, but ankle straps make legs look shorter. If you like them, go for it....I'm 5'3" and I don't need my shoes making my legs looks shorter! I want a smooth line all the way down past my ankles!

i am not a fan of nude shoes either and at 5'7" i really dont need to look any taller. black pants, black skirt, black dress.......black shoes, animal print shoes, or a metallic shoe.
