PLANTAR FASCIITIS shoe recommendations?

I am in my mid 40s and dealing with planter fasciitis. I cannot find any shoes that BOTH feel good and look good. This has been going on for 3-4 mos and the only shoes I've found are New Balance fresh foam Cruz , that I can tolerate. Unfortunately, they don't look good with everything because they are an atheletic shoe. I feel like I'm having to dumb down my wardrobe so I can wear the tennis shoes. Style is important to me, so I would love to find a wearable, comfortable shoe that is stylish and current. (Please don't recommend shoes that look like an older person like some Clarks and Allegria lime), as I want to dress my age not older. I typically like to wear jeans and cute, on trend sweaters and tops in the fall, but that doesn't go with new balance sneakers! Any ideas??

I second TheMemphisVette's recommendation of the Vionic orthodic inserts. I suffered with plantar fasciitis pain for 2 years and tried different shoes and gadgets. The Vionic inserts are what worked. Whatever shoes you like the looks of, see if the insole is removable. If they are, exchange them out for the orthodic insoles.

Riley, I developed plantar faciitis in the last few years before I retired, and the Vionic brand saved the rest of my career. I bought insoles to put in my boots, and have numerous pairs of sandals, mules and flat loafers from Vionic directly. They might or might not meet your style requirements, but the easing of the pain level can make a huge difference in your life, and can still look halfway decent if you look through the whole line. Good luck, that pain is excruciating, I know!

Have you been to a podiatrist? I have been to one not so great one and another great one. It does sound like you want inserts like the others have suggested. If the vionic work for you they would be a great option. I did have to go with a custom orthiotic at first because my foot had more than the basic issues. I then was able to go with premade ones. The foot exercises do help if you continue them. They do not help overnight.

Hi, there is a website: heelthatpain dot com that sells inexpensive heel seats for this exact problem. Start with the blue pair. you can put these heel seats in any of your shoes.

they work wonders! the pain will dissipaate fast. I have been pain free for going on six years.

vionics are great, and are coming out with stylish shoes now.

I suffered with planter fasciitis twice. It's horrible and the pain can be intense!

The first time I was in my late 40s (I'm 63 now) and I didn't know what to do. I stood on my feet a lot for work so I looked online for suggestions. I found a few exercises and also came to the conclusion that I needed arch support to help alleviate the pain.

I happened to have a pair of German gray clogs with arch support buried in my closet that I wore around the house and it helped a lot. I purchased a pair of black leather Birkenstock shoes (not sandals or clogs but regular shoes) that I wore out of the house. They weren't so great looking but helped with my foot problem. After a while I stopped wearing the Birks and after a few years the PF returned.

The second time I got PF Vionic shoes were being offered here and they featured arch support. I found a few pairs which helped a lot and now I only wear shoes with arch support...no more PF!

Vionics offer some cute styles and arch support as do Alegria (I understand you don't like those) and Earth Brand that also have some cute & stylish looks. I'm sure there are plenty of other brands that do as well.

Thank goodness I'venever had it. But my youngest daughter has had an awful time with PF.

We were in Belk one day with her limping about the store when we arrived at the show department and Vionic display. I suggested she try on one of the display shoes, which she reluctantly agreed to do. The expression on her face was priceless. It went from one of pain to one of a Thank Goodness It's Gone look. We bought that pair and one other. Every now and then the issue crops up again, but she goes back to strictly Vionic for a few days and it goes away very quickly.

Vionic isn't comfortable for me, but it's a godsend for her. I hope they work well for you as well. They have come out with some really cute styles lately. A bit expensive but worth every penny to my daughter.

I wear Birkenstock, Ryka, Merrell, Fly Flot etc. Look for anatomically correct shoes. They have to have good arch support. I tried some of the Vionic but every time I wear those I get a backache.

I had that, emphasis on HAD -- terrible heal pain when my feet hit the floor in the morning. Then a few years ago I started wearing Vionic slippers, both the open toe kind and the clog kind. My pain went away for good. So even if I do walk barefoot, there is no pain. But 99% of the time when I am at home, I am wearing those slippers. I have some of their sandals and shoes too, but I do not wear them everyday. The slippers do wear out after awhile. I am probaby on my 4th pair and have bought extras to be sure I have enough for the next several years.

I had plantar faciatis twice . Both times wearing a wedge shoe even around the house brought great relief . Also, I slept with a big bulky boot that I bought online made to stretch your muscles overnight and although sleeping with it took a little while to adjust it worked great and quickly - less then a week

If you have one nearby, I recommend visiting a better shoe store (I went to Nordstrom, who got their start as a shoe store & I found their sale people to be very good shoe fitters) & telling a salesperson what your needs are & ask what they recommend. The guy that I dealt with at Nordstrom (this was in WA about 18 years ago) told me I needed a shoe with good arch support with very good side to side stability & no flex thru the mid foot & I've used his guidelines ever since when buying shoes.

The shoe brands that work best for me are New Balance, Merrell, Mephisto, Naot & Josef Seibel, but you'll have to find which ones work well for you. Personally, I can't wear Birkinstocks or Vionic, because the footbeds aren't shaped & molded right for my very weird feet.

heelthatpain is a great website! I'm so glad that I found it when I first developed p.f.

I purchased their inserts, as well as practiced their exercises every day. Both made a big difference. It's a very informative website. Always have slippers on that are appropriate for p.f., too. I went to the Walking Store for several pairs of shoes when I first developed the problem. Over the years, I've purchased Vionic (shoes and slippers), Clarks, Merrell. Depending on the shoe, I may or may not need to add the inserts!

Several years ago, I went into DSW, trying to find something to wear to stop the pain. That's what started the whole processs for me of educating myself about what would and wouldn't work. Most shoes do not have any support whatsoever for people with p.f.!!!

Unless you have been diagnosed with PF, be aware there are other foot maladies that present themselves with similar symptoms.

Also, Vionics do not work for everyone with PF. If possible, go to a B&M store and try on a variety of brands.

Good luck, I know how excruciating that pain can be. (particularly getting out of bed)

When I had this problem some time ago, a doctor suggested that I buy SAS Shoes. It stands for San Antonio Shoes. You can buy them online or in the SAS shoe stores. My feet have never felt better. They are expensive but when your feet hurt you are willing to pay anything to make the pain go away.
