There is a Skechers boat shoe TSV pictured in the April Insider for pre-order (I think it's airing May 1st), and it is really cute and looks comfy, but I've never tried the brand, so before I order a shoe I end up sending back, I figured I'd ask my questions here.

#1. Do they offer decent arch support? I can wear Earth brand shoes and boots, but mostly I am stuck with Vionics, after a nasty bout of plantar faciitis I never, ever want to re-live. I am too old to live with pain just for "cute shoes".

#2. They offer a wide width, is it a true wide? A horse crushed one of my feet when I was 11, so I need a true wide. I find a lot of what shoe makers call "wide" would barely have passed for "medium" a generation ago.

#3. The boat shoes are described as having a "goga mat" insole, I am guessing from context that means it's well-padded? I'd love to hear opinions on this insole.

Thanks for any info any Skechers wearers on the forum would care to share!

I can only report on the support issue. You would be hard-pressed to find a shoe with less support. It has zip, nada support. To make matters worse they have memory foam insoles into which your foot sinks that seems comfy at first but after a little walking, if you need support, you're hurting. I wear a medium width and many of the Sketches are too wide on me, especially those described as "relaxed fit".

In my case I find Skechers very comfortable but I don't have any foot issues. I wear the medium width so I can't speak as to a wide. I do own a pair of Earth shoes and they seem to have more arch support than a Skechers. I have tried Vionic shoes and I had to send them back because the arch support was too much for me.

i agree with the others. my SIL has plantar facitius(?), hammertoes and really fred flinstone feet. all she wears is skechers and complains that her feet hurt all the time while wearing skechers. when she walks you can see her foot slide back and forth in her shoes. but she loves the fact that she can just slip on the shoe w/o bending over. i have the sneakers you dont need to tie they have bungee cords for laces they are comfy but without my orthotics there is no support.

I wear 9w and love my Skechers. The wides are true wide with plenty of toebox room. Are easy to slip on and off. They do not offer much support, but you will feel like you're walking on clouds. I also had plantar fasciitis and have no problem wearing Skechers almost exclusively. My favs are the Dazzle and Cadence styles. Get lots of compliments on the leopard color!

I agree. I've never found a pair of Sketchers I could wear for any amount of time. They are cute but they do hurt. They don't have any support. Also I have found that there have been times when walking over rocks, twigs etc they will get stuck in the soles and oft times go through the sole of the shoe. I would rather buy a pair of hiking shoes for the money. They last longer and provide support even though they aren't soft and squishy as Sketchers. I like Ahnu brand.

I had blisters on the bottom of my feet - I think because the material is non-breathable and inside is memory foam "very spongy".

I don't know what style (material) Q is offering.

Thanks to everyone who has replied! It sounds like I will need to add the price of a pair of Vionics insoles to the purchase price of the TSV when I consider ordering. Hmmm, no, I don't think that's a good deal. Thanks again to everyone, I really appreciate the advice!

@CamilleP, like you I have "forever" plantar fasciitis issues and live in Vionics. But I get tired of them having styles I have no use for or find ugly. I bought a pair of the removable Vionic insoles and went shopping at the Skechers outlet.

You have to be SURE the pair of Skechers you want has an easily removable insole; many of them don't. I know my Skechers size. I tried shoes on in the store to see if I needed to go up half a size with the orthotic, but I didn't.

Skechers are very cute, but they have ZERO support for any type of foot "issue" and certainly close to zero arch support.

A few months ago, I ordered the Skechers TSV - in several colors. Awful. My both feet turned inward --- and I never experienced that before. I then bought several pairs of Clarks - and they're GREAT. I suggest u go to a shoe store and explain ur situation - u need to try on different type shoes and styles.

My only Skechers is a boat shoe. It's in gray mist, which goes with just about everything. I have had four foot surgeries, so needless to say, I have wretched feet. But these are amazingly comfortable -- like slippers.

And like most slippers, there is very little support. I don't wear them, though, as "walking" shoes (as in walking for exercise or for a very long time. I will wear them to go shopping or stuff like that. I haven't experienced any problems.

They are super cute, too.

Thanks again to everyone who has given your experience, I think I had better pass on those boat shoes, as comfy as they look, because I won't be able to wear them unless I can switch out the insoles. They might address that during the presentation, so I will watch that when it happens (May 1st?) but I won't pre-order them. If they do show that the insole can be removed, I may take a chance on them, one of the colors that will be offered is a bright turquoise, a perfect summer color for a boat shoe!

@CamilleP, these are a pair I bought (there are other colors - I've had compliments on these, though). The insoles are removable - but it doesn't say so on the Skechers website. The only way you'll know about a Skechers shoe is to either hold it in your hand and try to take the insole out (what I did in the store) or hope that it's mentioned and/or demonstrated on QVC.

The style is Relaxed Fit, Empire, Game On. They come in half sizes. I can put my size 9 Vionic orthotics in the 8.5.

I have these on right now. http://www.qvc.com/Skechers-Flat-Knit-Slip-On-Sneakers---Stunner.product.A287177.html

I've been wearing them all day and they are so comfortable. My feet are on the narrow side of medium with high arches. These are very supportive and my feet never hurt in Skechers. I also bought the new wedge sandals...love them too.
