I'm a Kate Spade girl so thank you so much for the post. They have that most amazing sales and such gorgeous high quality apparel, bags, shoes and accessories. My closets are full of KS and I get compliments all the time by both men and women. I'm going over to their website now!

I just bought a new KS bag two weeks ago: Mattie Street Amelie in the dark brown suede. Its gorgeous!!!!! Can't wait to start using it this week!!!

Lol Of course, you in the city have the main store. My daughter is is where you are and I am in NJ. We have a few outlets here. I actually went to get a few gifts for her and my friends. KS is very addictive!!!

I love Kate Spade! I just bought her chinese take out box handbag. It is such good quality . and actually quite handy! It is a fun purse. I have several of her handbags, and pet each one everyday!

We have a Kate Spade New York store coming to a mall locally. What's the big deal with this particular brand? Also Michael Kors, Lucky Brands and White House Black Market stores in a remodel at same mall! Are they anything special?

Totally agree. Michael Kors is nothing exciting. On the other hand, Kate Spade is colorful, interesting and unique. I own about 30 Kate Spade Handbags and wear something different every day. On a daily basis I get compliments on my bags (by both men and women) and I'm always asked what brand it is and where they can buy it. Even in the doctor's office all the women went crazy for a black and white bag I was using that day. When I'm shopping in high end department stores I'm asked and when my husband and I were at the Acura Dealership buying a new car the General Manager got a pen and paper and wrote down the name of the bag as he wanted to buy one for his wife. I have never heard of that happening with anything from Michael Kors or any of the other brand. There has to be a reason that Kate Spade went from a small $25 million company to a multi $billion company in 6 years.

I'm not the fan I once was either... Kors seems to be following the BMak mantra of get in as many stores as you can, and sell as many bags as you can for as long as it lasts... TJ Maxx has virtually become a Kors outlet, they always have so many of his bags... Interestingly enough though, I'm also seeing a huge influx there of Lauren, DKNY and Spade bags, though mostly Kors... While both Kors and Spade have historically made nicer bags, I've never thought either of their regular retail lines were really 'all that'...

I have a couple of friends who own MK handbags and they are way overdone and gaudy. I don't pay much attention to his things but both of them own bags that have a huge gold MK logo on the front and the other is a gold bag with MK all over it. Blech.

I own a couple KS bags and wallets and I love them.

I agree. His logos are way overdone... I too own a few KS bags and while I like them, I can't say I like them any better than I do bags from several other labels...

I don't own a MK handbag, I never thought about it. I do know Michael Kors makes 3 brands of his bags. One is the higher end, simpler bag, made in Italy, 2,000 dollar+, he has the "common " dept store bag mixed in with his luxury line. The common bag as I call it, is especially made for a 150 to 500 price tag with price reductions. These bags you see everywhere always on sale. Then there is the outlet bag. These are made especially for his outlets, and have 7 points of changes from the higher retail, luxury bag These are also sold to secondary markets like ebay retailers, TJ Maxx, Marshalls,etc. The points they change are usually the lining, the leather trim around pockets is switched to pvc, the handles are changed, special colors are made for outlets, hardware is a different quality, and things like pockets, and extra detail are reduced. The grade of leather is different.

This is also true of Kate Spade, Ralph Lauren, and many other designers.

My neighbor worked at the MK outlet for 5 years. They treat the employees very well. Every month they got a free pair of jeans, or a dress, etc. But she told me about the marketing. She said rarely they ever got anything that was not made just for the outlet. It is marked in the label somewhere so customers cannot return it to retail stores.

And, if you sign up at Saturday.Com (Kate Spade), these are secret sales. I've purchased at least 15 bags and matching wallets for my sister under this site. Bags retail for $300-$400 dollars and I've gotten them for $150-$175. Can't beat it!!!

The only Kate Spade I own is a pair of eye glasses - her frames, that is. The KS case is so poorly made that it started to fall apart only a few months into its life with me. Fortunately, the frames themselves are doing well. I can always replace the case, but considering the cost of my lens, I don't want to have to replace those!

Anyway, this experience has made me Kate wary.

After my first, and only, purchase I don't even look at the sales anymore. I didn't care for the bag I purchased and you can't return them. Fortunately, I was able to sell it to my sister.
