If you do carry this handbag, this is what I would suggest.

When we travel, the things that I carry in my handbag are all in either ziplock bags or cosmetic bags. If I do have to take things out, then with everything contained, I don't worry about getting lost.

I have a zippered case that you can put your airline tickets, passport etc.

I also, did this in our carry-on's.

I agree with VaBelle, just because one person tells you one thing, it may change at the airport.

Hope this is the place to post. I do travel on airplanes but have never had a bag that had security RFID protection. Just wondering if I put the bag loaded (phone, tablet, keys, wallet, passport, etc) on the conveyor belt if I have to unload all the parts of it to go through security. I usually wear a vest and I just put it on the belt and it goes through. I just hate to use the bag and find out I have to take everything out. I don't want to leave anything behind accidentally. Yes, I did call TSA and they acted like they never heard of RFID anything. I guess I should try to call again during the week instead of on the weekend.

It really doesn't matter what they tell you on the phone because once you get to the airport, whoever is your TSA agent for your line will tell you yes or no and won't care what they told you on the phone. I travel a lot for work and the rules are different from airport to airport (and TSA Agent to TSA Agent at the same airport). Sometimes my yogurt goes through, sometimes it doesn't. There is no rhyme or reason to anything. It just depends on the agent, when they got their training. I just let go and let God, as they say, when I travel.

Thanks, I bought the TSV the other day with the RFID. We will be traveling again, to visit our daughter and then on to a short, fun, cruise and once I leave the ship I want to be safe with what I am carrying. I am never sure what to leave aboard the ship. I do have a friend that left almost everything and had a terrible accident and things had to be taken to her. So to be safe I will take the important things on me.

So many things to think about! I also recently purchased a Travelon bag with RFID protection and will be flying out of Newark to Brussels, Marseille then from Paris back to Newark soon. Thanks for even bring this up! ....Something I hadn't thought about!

It's a good idea to put items into a few zip lock bags...makes getting them in & out much easier if you have to remove anything.

I can't think of any reason why an RFID blocking bag would cause any problem for the TSA folks. RFID signals are in a completely different part of the radio spectrum than the TSA scanning equipment. Traveling with RFID protection is an easy and inexpensive way to add some protection to your cards. No guarantees, just a reasonable precaution that helps us put it out of our minds and enjoy our trips. Prudent avoidance, you could say.

There's a pretty good reason why the TSA searches are different and change all the time; they don't want it to be predictable enough for people to figure out how to sneak past with something not allowed. (And yes, on top of that, they are also human and humans are inconstant to some extent.) Not sure if I think everything they do is necessary, but the reps at the security line don't get to decide about that, and it's always best to just relax and go along with it just like they do.

bonnielu....quite often when I travel, needing passport or ID, I will make a copy of my passport and photo ID to carry with me and leave originals in the safe. I was told this was a better idea, especially if you are in areas where theft, pickpockets or even purse-snatchers may be a problem....which could be in almost any tourist driven area.

I think the metal mesh that's in this one could be more of an issue. They're going to see that on the scanner. What they make of it is the question.

You either use a credit card (magnetic strip) to lock/unlock it or a 3-4 digit code of your choosing. You will not need your passport getting on and off the ship at different ports, but you will need your cruise card that is issued to you upon arrival. Most all larger cruise lines scan you off and on so they can account for all passengers. Have fun on your cruise!

I mentioned the carrying of the passport off the ship because I had a friend that was in a serious accident in port... was taken to the hospital and did not have her actual passport. Someone had to run and get it for her. Needless to say she and he were not aboard the ship when it sailed off. I know this is not the usual thing to happen but in her case it did happen to her.

As for the credit card chip... you can actually see it. It is silver and is block shaped. And it does not scan... the whole card goes in the scanner machine a different way... it is inserted and holds until told to take it out. Stores have to update in order to make use of it. Found this out in Sams Club recently.

I saw it - looked just like fresh from the supermarket, with an undisturbed, firmly-set surface. She was told to either eat it now or throw it away.

Although I see the value in these travel bags, I think they scream "tourist" and just draw unwanted attention. I experimented a bit on my last trip to London, and I now travel with a black leather foldover crossbody bag when I'm in Europe (except Italy). I think I blend in a lot more and feel more confident in tourist spots. Nothing is fail-proof, but for some places in the world, it makes sense (at least for me) not to broadcast that I'm a traveler.
