Just received the Tignanello Pocket Hobo in the Sunrise yellow, which is a color I have wanted for a while. I should have known when ONE popped up that it would be a return and yes it obviously was. No wrapping - just in a plastic bag. The bag appears to be perfect and probably unused but I still have a teeny little issue with paying full price. I kept one Brighton handbag a few years ago that was obviously a return for the same reason - it was a color and style that was hard to find. I just hate feeling like I'm paying full price for someone else's cast offs. I really think QVC should put all customer returns in the "as is" category to prevent making their customers feel taken advantage of.

If the bag appears perfect (and you say it does), then I would keep it.

I have no issue with paying full price for something that was returned by someone else. That happens all the time in actual stores. When I worked in retail (a long time ago, so things might have changed), returns that were in good condition were put right back on the floor, at the same price as the others.

I never assumed that returned items were delegated to "as is" unless there was an obvious defect or used look to it. I guess I just don't expect an item that was returned and looks perfectly fine to have a reduced price, and I wouldn't expect QVC to do that.

If it's going to bother you, then I think you should return it. Personally, I wouldn't keep something that gave me a bad feeling every time I looked at it or used it. But in this case I would keep it since it's in perfect condition and is a color you've been wanting for awhile.

I think it's unrealistic to expect that a retailer wouldn't resell returned items in perfect condition. Now if items are damaged, that's a different thing.......but a perfect bag that just isn't in its original wrapping? You planned to remove the wrapper anyway, right?

I would say keep it too. I have been guilty of unpacking a bag, keeping it few days to decide, than sending it back. Nothing was wrong with the bag and I didn't carry it, but I put my items in it to check the weight and tried it on a dozen times. Just deciding that the bag was not for me.

Deb

Cinebee, QVC has sent me customer returned bags as new 5 times in the last several months, so I know exactly how you feel.

Receiving a return when you have ordered and paid for a NEW item is disappointing, even if the bag is in new shape. Part of the fun of a new purchase is unwrapping it - why else would people make a big deal of "unboxing"? That's part of the fun, even if you throw it away. Heck, they even make a big deal in some of the shows about how well packaged the bag is when you get it, how well it's wrapped, etc.

Buying a return from a store is different, because you can see and touch the item, and then decide if you want it. Buying from QVC means they choose for you which bag you get - new or a return - and you have to trust them.

Also, I too don't love cooties. And dollars bills are filthy, BTW. You don't know what situation that bag was in before it was returned to QVC, and while many here will be careful with a bag if they think they might return it, many will not be, and just because it looks fine doesn't mean it didn't travel to some gross places.

I say some of this because I don't think it's fair that some people so easily dismiss your concern. The bottom line is you bought a new bag, not an "as is" bag, and not a bag from Ebay or somewhere else. You paid for a new bag. You did not receive a new bag.

One of the Roma's I received a couple of weeks ago was a return, but it was fine and the handles were still wrapped. I kept it. I have returned all of the others. If you love the bag and will feel good about keeping it, keep it. If you will get a pit in your stomach every time you look at it, send it back. There will always be a better bag around the corner.

There will always be a better bag around the corner.

I understand what you're saying, but I think if most people had seen this bag in a store and it appeared to be perfect and unused (her words), and the color they'd been looking for, they likely would buy it. So I don't think buying from a store is different at all. I couldn't care less about "unboxing". If the product looks good to me, then I want it! If protective packaging was missing and the item looked damaged, that's a whole different story. But that's not the case here.

Yes, QVC customers have to trust QVC to choose a bag that appears perfect. But we all know that they often send out merchandise that is not perfect, and in that case we can return it. And it's the same also for any store-bought item that's pre-packaged and can't be examined in the store. I've returned things purchased in stores because when I got them home and opened the packaging, they were damaged or appeared used or the wrong color was in the box or whatever.

If anyone doesn't like what they bought - from stores or anywhere else - usually they can return them, and obviously many people do. But if an item appears to be perfect and unused, then I think it's unreasonable to expect retailers to lower the cost. IMO that's expecting an awful lot. I am quite sure that we have all bought things we thought were brand, untouched, new that were likely not - including underwear, bathing suits, and everything else. It's impossible for everything to be brand spanking new, untouched by prior human hands. I always assume that clothing I purchase online or in stores has been tried on by other people. My assumption is never that I'm the first person to try something on, or wear it, or use it, or touch it. With the rate of returns that QVC gets, it would be insane for them to reduce the price of every item that's returned. Returns are a part of the sales business, and I'm sure most businesses put returns right back out there to be sold again (hopefully after checking for defects, etc, although we all know that doesn't always go the way it should!)

I do agree that if this is going to be bothersome, she should definitely return it. There's no pleasure in something that's going to make someone feel shortchanged or unhappy every time they look at it. So it's a personal decision, but she asked what we would do and it seems that most of us are saying we would keep it. So clearly it's a comfort level thing. But I wouldn't assume that even a bag that came in its proper wrapping had not been returned by someone else and was brand new and previously untouched. That's just not realistic, IMO.

Yes, I would keep it. One, I return quite a few bags. Two, I've accepted that QVC resells like new bags like any other retailer. I've gotten as is bags that are just perfect, mainly from Dooney, but I think some sellers like Aimee K don't do as is. It's the same with EBay. Their new with tags bags are supposed to have all the original wrapping, and I have never received one that did. But if they are like new, I accept it. I got one that reeked of cigarettes, was crammed in the dust bag, and sold as new. The seller lied to me, so I complained to Ebay and got a full refund of shipping and return shipping. Now if I sell bags on Ebay I sell them as used even if I haven't carried them. I just want to keep a good rating.

I would sure hate to see what their prices would be if they had to put a reduced price on every return! Some way or another, the customers would have to pay.

QVC sends out returns all the time. They have stores on their property so customers paying full price can make that decision when they see a returned item if they want it for full price. Q also has an 'as is' section. Q's mark up on handbags is so unreasonable it's a shame. I NEVER purchase handbags from Q anymore. I am tired of cooties.

Personally, I think returns should be sold in their outlet stores. I'd want a brand new, still-in-the-wrapping bag. You can call CS and ask for a partial refund. Just say you received a returned bag; don't elaborate.

When you place an order on line you can't inspect the merchandise, therefore all items should be brand, spankin' new.

IMO, of course.

OP if you are not 100% happy return it, but when you shop in the stores we don't expect to see wrapped bags on the sales floor. They have been handled by sales people and customers alike.

If this bag had signs of use then you are right in your concerns.
