I sent my Roma 2 blush back over the weekend because of the smell. When I first received it and opened the package, the first thing I noticed was the smell - and NOT the smell of leather (I've purchased D&B and Isaac bags in the past and each time I've opened those packages, the wonderful smell of leather was evident). I couldn't pinpoint what the Roma smell was, but it didn't dissipate, even after leaving it out for over a week. I really liked the bag. It was a little big, but I knew that when I purchased it and knew I would get used to it. The smell, however, was definitely something I couldn't live with.

Just ordered Roma 2 in black. Perfect except for strong chemical odor. What is it? I have had the bag hanging outside for three days, and it still has a strong odor. Anyone had luck getting rid of it? I cannot even keep it in the house let alone wear it yet. May have to return.

I have the black and it does not have a chemical odor to it. I've noticed a few posters on another thread saying their bag smelled bad, so I had my husband, son, and daughter all smell mine to make sure it wasn't just my nose not picking up on it. They all agreed that the smell was that of leather, and not anything chemical-like. It's funny how some bags have the odor, and others don't.

I posted a week or so ago about this as no one else had mentioned an odor. In fact, in my thread, I was the only one with the issue.

Not any more.

I placed my Snake and it's dustbag outside from sunrise to sunset for a few days. That helped dramatically. It's definitely a chemical order on the line as what is sprayed on lawns to kill weeds. I say this because it triggered my asthma, made my eyes water and my mouth feel numb.... just like commercial week killer does that companies spray on lawns.

As of now, no issues.

I like the Blush bag very much, but it had a very strong "chemical" smell when I received it. In fact, I had to move it to another room, because of the strong smell and because it gave me a headache. Since then, the smell has dissipated, but it's still there somewhat.

I have the box and packing material, including the dust cover. All those have the same chemical smell.

I have a lot of allergies also, and I was wondering if my blocked sinuses and blocked ears are from the purse or from the trees, etc., outside.

I have the blush and it has no smell unless I put my nose right on it, and it's a lovely leather smell. The dust cover and box had no smell either, and I have read that the "odor" bags smelled the minute the box was opened. My bag is soft and gorgeous, and I am sorry for those who got icky bags. Curious as to why some are stinky and some are fine in the same color.

Appreciate all the replies!. QVC needs to determine what chemical is sprayed on this bag that could be toxic to people and pets. We have autoimmune disorders in our house, and I'm not going to take a chance on toxicity just for a handbag. It's Made in China, and they have had problems with other products coming from that region. May try to switch it out for a different one.

I am so sorry that some of you have had this problem. My nat ostrich has no chemical smell and is beautiful. It is sad that your experience is ruined by the smell. That seems to be an on-going problem with products from China. I have noted a strong smell with some shoes (expensive) that are Chinese manufactured. Very scary.

I called customer service, but they told me that they were unaware of the problem. Hmmmm.... I can see from the reviews that many people had the same issue. I suggested that they look into it because it could be a health concern, but I don't know if that information will go anywhere. I may try to exchange mine because I like the look of the bag and need one good tote. But, I am a bit concerned about what chemicals are used during manufacturing process and if they are hazardous. I am happy that some of you love your bag!!!! Its a pretty one.

I received my black Roma 2 yesterday. It's beautiful. Perfect. Except for the turbo bug spray smell. Yeah, China -- probably a factory fumigation schedule, and some bags got hit heavily and some missed it. The components for my metallic Roma missed varmint-control spray day.

I conditioned the leather using ForceField Leather Cleaner & Conditioner that I bought at a furniture store last year. Some color, not much, came off on the paper towels. Then I sprayed (heavily) two sheets of paper towels with Bath & Body Works "Warm Vanilla Sugar" and put them in the bottom of the Roma -- along with two water bottles in a gallon plastic bag. Back on the doorknob.

It already smells better 10 minutes later, but I can just about guarantee that no bugs are going to come near this bag!

I also have the Natural Ostrich, and that had no chemical smell at all. It was only the Blush. As I mentioned, the smell has dissipated (with a slight odor), and I really like the bag, so I'll probably keep it.

I returned the Metallic, because of slashes across the tassel. I just got the refund notice the other day, and right afterwards, my "waitlist" for the Metallic shipped. I had to call to get my return shipping refunded, and was told by Customer Service that I should not have been charged return shipping if I marked the return "defective" (which I did). I'm just concerned that the bag I returned was shipped back to me.

What do you think of the natural ostrich? Is it softening up. A lot of people thought it felt like cardboard and that they did not do a good job painting the dots on. What do you think? I'm sending black one back. I don't want to take the chance of toxic issue even though it is dissipated a bit. I agree it smells like a pesticide. I called QVC today and told customer service that they need to look at these bags because I suspected something happened to them either prior to ordering shipping. They are apologetic but non committal.

My Natural Ostrich does have some faint paint smears on one end of the bottom of the bag, and a couple on the handle, but it's not bad enough to return the bag. At least, this bag doesn't smell.

My Natural Ostrich is a bit stiffer than the Blush bag, but I understand the new Ostrich bags went through an extra step of "tumbling" to soften the leather. Mine is not extremely stiff, and I think it will soften up more as I wear it.

I had the blush Roma hanging in my guest room for two weeks and then this week put it outside. it still smelled so back it went this morning. I have the ivory ostrich and it's fine. I ordered that one at the last minute and figured I'd be sending it back. It's beautiful. I love it. Also ordered the black (okay I got a bit crazy), that one went back because the tassel was a mess. Asked for an exchange and will see what it looks like. The blush was the only one with the awful odor.

My blush bag has a very strong chemical smell in the lining. I love the bag and I've tried everything to get rid of the odor. I've used fabric softener sheets, OdoBan and leaving it on my screened porch to air out. The odor gets better temporarily, but comes right back. As much as I hate to do it, I have to return my beautiful blush Roma 2. I'm so disappointed but I'm happy for everyone who got a great bag.

It is a very nice bag but I love the black.

Unfortunately I will be returning the black - not sure about the expresso lizard yet. Debating whether to order another black (or 2) to see if one will be odor free.

It's so disappointing - this should not be happening.
