How about turning an unused and unloved Roma tassel (or any other leather purse tassel charm) for that matter into a cat toy? I have a nice black leather tassel purse charm that I bought from Danier Leather in Canada but my cat thought it would make a great toy for herself and she managed to tear off 2 of the fringes from the tassel. Well, I had to trim those two torn edges of the fringe so that the tassel would look normal and then I had to move my handbag from the doorknob so that my cat couldn't get at the tassel again.

With all these discussions of the new Roma 2 handbag and the tassel, and shedding, and issues... I just had to contribute my experience. I ordered and received the natural ostrich option about 3 days ago. I loved it at first sight, inspected it and didn't see any flaws. She has been "training" out with 2 jars of Marinara sauce (approx 24 oz. each) and she is going to have bigger muscles than me! I figured since she is supposed to be Italian she should train that way. Anywhooo, I totally ignored the tassel until I started reading all the complaints about tassel shedding, etc. Lisa did warn people that the tassel would possibly shed, some bags more than others, so I don't understand why some posters are so surprised, and some are even returning their bags just because of the tassel.... it's for decoration, take it off if you don't like it. I just wanted to say that I think I tamed my tassel today. I took it off the bag, shook it around, whipped myself with it, and if someone else had been around I would have whipped them too! I have to report that not a single thread fell off my natural ostrich tassel, and she gave me a beating. I cannot speak to others experiences, but take that tassel and shake it about, I'm sure it will settle down and do your beautiful bag justice!

Jules5280, you are correct! I took my tassel off my blush and just shook It around outside and it's better already. The back side of the leather, which is the suede, is what's shedding. It will do this until all the loose fibers are done rubbing on each other, then it will be fine!! For Pete's Sake, ladies! It's not the tassel falling apart! It just loose fibers on the BACK side of the leather! Stay calm, and enjoy the beauty of your bag!

Wow, glad I wasn't within whipping distance... I have to admit, I don't like the tassels at all and removed them from every one of my Roma bags. I kept them, though I have no idea why, because there's no way I'll ever attach them back to the bags. They're just a little too large to be appealing, to me anyway. So, even if the tassel on my newest Roma acquisition should start to shed, I won't care at all! I'd certainly not return one of these bags because of the tassel, but then I guess some folks find them more of an asset than do I...

Just my humble opinion but if you cut the tassel it will look odd and not proportioned. The base would then be too long for the actual tasseled leathers. For a lack of better term, it would look stumpy, or choppy. This is a case of preference. There are those of us that like the look on our bags, and others not so much. That's why it's genius that Lisa made it detachable!!

I haven't had any trouble with tassel shedding (Natural Ostrich and Blush). However, there were cuts partially through the tassel on the Metallic, so I had to return that bag.

By the way, how long are we supposed to "train" our bags? I have both bags loaded with 32 oz. WEN and Purity bottles. Are we supposed to keep a bottle in the bag each time we hang it up when we are not wearing it?

Are we supposed to keep a bottle in the bag each time we hang it up when we are not wearing it?

That is a most excellent question Lyn08, and I was wondering the same thing. Since I have never owned or trained a Roma before, I am also uncertain. It's not like the bag is going to say, okay I am done working out I can't take anymore. I suppose it might be different for both of your bags since the Natural Ostrich is a bit stiffer leather than the Blush. BTW, I am sort of jealous in a good way... I originally wanted the Blush but waited too long, put it on wait list and then fell in love with the Natural Ostrich and ordered that too. Received the Natural Ostrich and am so very pleased.... but then I was reading all the bad stuff about the Blush and flaws... and I cancelled my wait list order, and now I have cancellation remorse. Oh well... I will probably order the Blush at a later time when it is back in stock, and will pay more for it. So, I'm happy you have both and like them.

I guess once your bag naturally takes on that "slouchy" shape, and probably the more stuff you put in it when you carry around will help too. Mine is still working out with a couple jars of marinara sauce.

I'd certainly not return one of these bags because of the tassel, but then I guess some folks find them more of an asset than do I...

stevieb, we should start a whole new thread for you.... "What to do with all your Roma tassels when not on your Roma". I'm betting we could get some very clever suggestions with this bunch of gals!

I'm betting so too...

I have some ideas already.... but I'm gonna save them for later.

We have some fun ladies here and their contributions are priceless. I figured everyone was talking about the tassels, so hence the name. Maybe Lisa can turn it into a show?
