I feel there is a big difference between returning an item that is defective versus ordering and using it during the return window and then returning! The individuals who continually practice using items and then returning them on purpose, just drive QVC's costs up and therefore drive the retail price up for people like myself.

Not sure if this subject has come up for discussion and if the topic did come up, how much was said by the D&B community at this QVC site.

I have noticed the last several months, going through the reviews of various D&B handbag styles, several postings where customers feel comfortable stating how many weeks they carried a handbag before returning the item.

Before I get a ton of people jumping on me, stating they are within the parameters of QVC policy, reminding me of the expense of the product, the inability to feel the weight, discover the usefullness of the styling and the proportions of the bag since it is an on air/online purchase, please, remember I am a longtime customer and realize it is difficult to purchase under the condition of items not being seen and held prior to purchase.

My concern with "as is" purchasing, is for QVC, other customers and of course, for myself as a D&B purchaser at QVC. It is one thing to take a chance at an "as is" bag to find a tiny scratch or two. Many of the bags are close to $400.00 and this is a good deal of money for anyone to spend. The issue I have, and perhaps I am wrong all over the place on this issue, is the cost of postage, time and trouble for the customer who takes a chance at an "as is" handbag, only to receive a dirty, obviously used handbag with missing key fob, shoulder strap ect. Is this fair to QVC and other QVC customers? It is one thing to purchase "as is" and be willing to accept a few scratches in order to receive a discount, but is a completely different issue to buy an item someone has clearly used and returned.

I am sure my concerns are partially age based, since I lived through a period when items had to be returned within 14 days, all the tags attached, in the original store paper bag and in perfect shape. Also, my mother worked as a human resource manager for a major department store. I heard all the stories of customer issues which cost the store money and the losses being passed on to the rest of the customers.

Bottom line: Should the generous QVC return policy be abused? Is it fair for the cost of dirty and incomplete handbags to be incurred by QVC and the QVC customers?

I don't know anyone so foolish that she would spend $200-300 on an "as is bag". Anyone who takes such risks, has no reason to complain if she receives a beat up or dirty bag. "As is" couldn't be plainer. Used. The description does not say "refurbished". You read posts hear and you can tell that lots of women wear the heck out of items and then "decide" that it isn't right for them and return it. Who would want a bag that someone carried around for 28 days and then returned? And what condition would you THINK it would be in? The mark downs on "as is" handbags are not deep enough to take such a risk.

QVC shouldn't be reselling used, dirty, stained bags for high prices. They are in the wrong to do so. "As is" should not mean these things. I wouldn't risk an "as is" bag, but I wouldn't expect a beat up bag, no matter what. I have only ordered jewelry "as is" and the other day I received a broken necklace, which I immediately called about and the rep said, of course, "as is" does not mean "broken, in pieces". I am returning on the Q's dime for that. This is the only damaged "as is" item I have received. I wouldn't order clothing, either. That still doesn't make the Q right in trying to resell dirty, stained, or smelly items for still relatively high prices. They should write off such items as a loss, which I'm sure is perfectly legal and many retail places do that. What happens to returned cosmetics and under garments? Do they resell them? I don't think someone is foolish to try an "as is" bag.

I agree with you April-Rose. It is not right to use something and then return it for a full refund unless you found something wrong with the item. When I return items, I make sure they are in the same condition I received them in and I even try to package it the same. When I buy shoes, I make sure to wear them on carpeted areas (with socks or nylons on) until I am sure I will keep them. I don't want to send back shoes with a dirty sole. Purses should be returned in pristine condition. It is appalling that people would use an item for a month knowing that they are going to send the item back. Some people have no values or character. Gail

I agree with April-Rose. It doesn't matter how much an item costs. If you are using it and abusing it, it is yours. I don't understand how QVC handles items returned with missing parts. IE the logo lock bag. I would think QVC would consider it theft to receive a return with parts missing.

This isn't about handbags, but I've bought a number of clothing as-is items over the years and most have been in great shape. The normal complaint would be a strong smell of perfume on the item. The worst though, was a tank and cardigan set I received. The previous customer had used a sewing machine to take in 2 inches of fabric on the side seams of the cardigan and then returned it that way. Seriously? And it was resold in an altered state? I didn't much care for the cardigan, but I decided to be a respectful customer and using a seam ripper, I carefully removed the stitching so that it would be returned in it's original condition.

Much to my surprise as I was packing it for return, I find a used 14k gold earring in the pocket. Whoever the previous customer was, she lost an earring in the process of returning an altered item. Just a little bit of karma...

Overall, I've had good luck with as-is bags, but I've had a couple of bummers lately, so I'm giving them a rest... Agree, it's confusing to me how they decide what gets re-sent out as new and what winds up in the as-is section. Personally, I think it's the luck of the draw and that there's very little rhyme or reason how the choice is made.

This thread brings to mind this Dooney bag which was a TSV last fall:

I'm amazed that Dooney and qvc are actually still selling this, for $239 no less.

I ordered and received my set and loved its look out of the box. It was my first splurge, my first Dooney. Instead of using it immediately I hung it in my bedroom and admired it.

Then something caused me to go back and read the reviews. This attempt at a snakeskin look FAILED MISERABLY!!! Many reviewers complained at how the "scales" rubbed off after only a few uses, revealing some sort of suede underneath. I packed up my purse carefully and sent it back on my own dime.

I can't imagine that this purse held up well for anyone. I think any 5 stars were given when new and not yet used. I'm sure many used purses were returned. Not sure if qvc tried to send any of them out to new buyers.

Frankly, given the reviews, I fail to understand why people continue to buy this purse. They've restocked all the colors several times. Guess some buyers don't read reviews.

Dooney used this snakeskin effect on other purses and the scales rubbed off on them also.

They should have been reputable enough to admit a new technique failed and to stop selling any more stock. I've lost a great deal of respect for both dooney and the q. Can anyone spell INTEGRITY!!!!

Call me another foolish one for buying ""as is"" Dooney's. I have bought maybe 10-12 ""as is"". Most of them have come still with the handles/hardware/strap wrapped and looking brand new. Not one of them looked used in any way. A few were missing dust bag which I don't care about. I have only sent one back and it was a Florentine that had the marks on it that they get from everyday use or if your nails brush over them. I decided I didn't like something that marked so easily--even though I know you can buff them out. I have seen many bags at Macy's marked up far more than that bag was and the ones at Macy's were full price. I realize my luck may end at some point but I will be happy for the savings I had on all my other ""as is"" bags. To me it is worth a gamble to save well over $100 on each bag.

I am happy with all I have ordered from As Is items.

I have that snakeskin purse and it does not have scales. It has an embossed snakeskin pattern.

Did you know that if you buy an as is purse and the accessories are missing if you call customer service they will take a few dollars off? I have done that a couple of times.

Morning, does that mean that you haven't had any problem with the shiny part rubbing off as so many reviewers cited? I'm glad if you haven't. But a lot of people certainly have. I think the bag looks great but Dooney needs to rework the craftsmanship. It's a process that could benefit from some "tweaking".

I had the black one and as I said I liked it a great deal. Sorry that Dooney didn't do a better job. Good luck with your purse. I hope it wears well for you?

Thank you. So far so good on my snakeskin purse. I have the wristlet too and haven't had any problem with them.

I recently received the hydrangea satchel, and it was clearly a return and missing it's accessories. I returned it promptly for a refund.

If you are considering an "as is" bag, I highly recommend checking Ebay. There are some very good prices on the Flo bags, logo locks (especially the logo locks), etc., and you get to see pictures of the actual bags. Many have the wrapping still on, and/or, if they have a defect, you see what it is and typically get a very good price. So at least you know what you are purchasing.

I purchased 2 Flo satchels from Ebay that had scratches, and still had tags on them. I paid less than half the retail price and was able to polish the scratches right out.

Thank you ChynnaBlue!

Krissie...I agree eBay is another place to buy Dooney bags at half off. I like when the seller provides several pics of the actual bag, so you know what is will look like when it arrives.
