Lightweight Leather DB?

My Florentine bag is just too heavy. I remember seeing a presentation of a newer leather that is lighter, but can't remember what it is - the Toledo, maybe? What is your recommendation for a light weight leather Dooney? Thanks for any info.

I sure wish I could answer this question for you because I too am having problems with the weight of leather bags. Have a whole closet full of them and they are beautiful, but started having shoulder and neck pain a few months ago and found it was from the weight of my bags. Since not carrying them, the pain has gone.

Maybe someone will answer this for us.

I'd sure like to know, too. I have several that I've stopped using because of the weight, & I really don't carry a lot of stuff, either. I thought I was just being an old lady, so I feel better now knowing that it's not just me.

I know that the lambskin leather is very light. I think the Toledo is also, but I haven't seen that one in person. The Amazon collection (croco) is also light. And the ostrich leather is also lighter. Of course the size and style of the handbag are also factors in the weight. But Florentine, AWL, and pebbled leathers including Dillen are heavy.

Be sure and check in the product description of the bag you have that is too heavy and find out its weight, then compare with bags you might consider.

I too can't deal with the very heavy leather bags anymore, and love my TSV chevron tote (very light but big), the "Italian" nylon ones, extremely light. They have the Dooney leather trim and logo and have the Dooney look, but are very light and also easy to care for.

I have a lambskin Dooney that is very light! However, they don't make many bags in the lambskin. Also, I do like their coated cotton. I can't use the Florentine. I have one that I plan on selling on ebay. I only used it a couple of times and it's just too heavy!

Toledo is for sure lighter than Florentine and I find them to be beautiful leather bags.

I agree with Stevieb: Dooney's Toledo leather is a good choice for anyone looking for a light weight leather bag.

I bought 2 of the D&B florentine east/west zip top sac (black & chestnut)...LOVE!!! I was SOOOO lucky to also get them at an awesome deal ($199 each with FREE S&H and NO taxes!!!)....part of the 12 Days of Christmas D&B dot com had last year.

For a florentine leather bag, it's quite lightweight and the added benefit of being able to have everything zipped up/safe is a bonus especially when traveling! I HIGHLY recommend it!!! I could never carry the other heavy leather bags...it would become annoying, but that's just me...

Keep in mind, it is a "no frills", no foo-foo/bling handbag...just great quality, lightweight, organized, and a wonderful mid-sized workhorse. I would love to get it in navy...and maybe red someday too! I would happily let go of a couple of other bags for them to fit in my armoire

It would be well worth it to keep an eye out for this bag to pop up during any sales. I found it at Zappos now for you...worth reading the reviews (SKU 7920267)...

You can also read reviews for it on QVC dot com...however, no longer available (A220187)

I have the Toledo Mail satchel (chestnut) and have enjoyed it very much. It is a good size for me and not heavy to carry. The wide opening makes it super easy to get into and out of too!

That's a nice bag too! However, for me, since many of my handbags are coated cotton satchels, nylon totes, janine satchels...all with no outside pockets whatsoever, I like the changeover to having them with the east/west sac and the simplicity...bare to the bones so to speak...of just one handle/strap too

I love this bag. I do wish it had an outside pocket, but the size and weight are great. I bought it in natural but would like to get it in blue and rouge at some point.

The Florentine Medium Hobo is fantastic and plenty big, and only weighs a pound. It is one of the lightest weight florentine leather bags. Right now it is sold out on QVC , but for sale on other sites, including dooney.com

You might also consider the coated fabric bags. These are wonderful. They look and feel somewhat like leather, but are lighter and can just be wiped clean. They come in several silhouettes... Here is the Eva coated satchel in red and also in black. I have and love this bag (in red), but there are lots of coated options from Dooney.
