Would you spend $577 on a GILI bag?

Just noticed the price of the GILI bag that's in the Red Carpet style show--$577.82. Here's my question: would you spend $600 (with tax and shipping) for what is essentially a QVC brand bag? If you spend major bucks on a Dooney bag, you have a status bag with a recognizable status name. So I guess part two of the question should be: is the quality of the bag more important to you than the designer name? Equally important? Less important?

If I liked it, and could afford it, I wouldn't care about what the brand is. I bought a $2,000 Tod's handbag a few years ago because I really liked it. I happen not to like this GILI bag, so I wouldn't even consider it. If someone is buying it with the possibility of selling it at a later time, the GILI bag would most certainly not hold its value.

This, exactly. That's more than twice as much as I've paid for any of my bags and I don't make enough money to spend that for a bag of any brand, so I would not. But if I loved the bag and had the money to spend, who cares?

No high end brand ever got there by undervaluing their items and hoping people would pay more. Consumer studies show that people perceive value and status when they are charged more and perception becomes reality. People think they're paying for better quality, but once you get to a certain point, you're just paying for the name. I don't own any GILI items, so I can't say if their quality is more Walmart or more Nordstrom, but material and craftmanship can only get so good and it's all manufactured in the same way and in the same places OR you're looking at a hand made bag that brings you into a whole new pricing realm.

If QVC wants GILI to be a high end brand, they're doing what they need to be doing. (Except for the part where it's still on QVC... but again, they'll never break out of that mold if they don't try.) Maybe they'll fail, but better to try and fail than never to try at all.

OMG - I didn't know he had something that expensive on the Q! The sole reviewer for the bag was from April 2012...shouldn't it be on "last clicks" price by now?

Let's consider the fact that some of the GILI 2 bags had MAJOR POOR QUALITY issues that were not openly acknowledged. With that in mind, why would anyone consider plunking down a sizeable hunk of cash on a store brand knockoff which may or may not have similar issues? There are so many other beautiful, well made, well known handbags from which to choose!!

I wouldn't spend $600 on THAT bag. It's all relative but $600 really isn't all that expensive for a nice bag. I'd gladly spend that much on a bag that I love. Back in the day, when I was young and foolish, I spent more on bags. But I don't like the bag we are discussing and I don't think it's any better than the other GILI bags that, I think, run in the $250 price range. It's part of their silly Red Carpet event, that's why they inflated the price.

Too many bad reviews of GILI brand things for me to ever spend hundreds on a GILI bag.....I would want something that would hold its value and this line is not time-tested enough for me.
