I have a 17 inch but I consider that size to be a desktop replacement laptop. If you want it lighter and more portable get a 15 inch.

We bought the 17 in with out Microsoft Office we are replacing a HP 20 in all in one I wanted something I could move around if I wanted to do my scrapbooking on the sofa or in bed or on the table.

I like a my 17 inch screen. It's as big as my old desk top, and I can use it anywhere in the house.

If I want portability out and about, it's tablet time.

Me too.

I bought a 14", and ended up returning it. I thought I would like the smaller size and would get used to it, but after 2 days I realized that I was always going to regret having bought it.

I take my Kindle if I go anywhere, and I'm quite happy with my 17" at home. (And it's pretty lightweight so not at all hard to travel with.)

I have a 23" monitor on my desktop, 17" Dell, a 15" Toshiba Thin laptop, and my iPad. In order of use....iPad, desktop, 15", 17". Can't remember the last time I turned on the 17". It's really heavy. But most of the time I use my iPad.

If I needed a desktop, I would go for the 17." Since it is a laptop I would go smaller, to the 15." It just fits better into spaces for me.

I have a 17.3 " widescreen (more rectangular than square) notebook, and since this laptop is also my desktop - and my television, LOL - it's currently the best option for me.

My 10.1" netbook is the back-up computer, and lighter in weight for traveling purposes.

I have a 17 inch laptop. At first I thought it was too big, but I'm getting used to it. I bought it as a desktop replacement. It is awkward to carry around, but I didn't buy it for carrying around. I want to be able to move it from room to room, not cart it around out of the house. I have a kindle for travel.

feline, thanks for the info on the cooling accessory. I was thinking of something since the motor or fan the underside. This keeps it cool by rising it, ventilating.?

If you are accustomed to using a desktop and the laptop will be used as a replacement for your desktop then you may be more satisfied with a larger laptop. I have owned 3 different sizes of laptops 17, 15 and 13. I am very satisfied with the size and portability of my 13" MacPro. We rarely utilize our desktop, however I will admit there are projects that I prefer to use our desktop which has a 19" screen.

Yes, your laptops stays cool because the 'pad' rises it above whatever surface it's on. The entire piece itself is perforated, which allows for maximum ventilation, and it's got rubber on the bottom for stability and non-scratching/marking.

You can also use it without the three fans, and I often do that as it's almost always on my lap. That makes it lighter and more comfortable for me.

I have 13", 15" and 17" laptops - I just gave the 17" to my mom because it was too big and I realized I didn't like it as much (it works well for her as her first non-desktop). I prefer the 13" but it doesn't have as much power as my 15". I would recommend a 15" if it's your only computer, I really think that even a streamlined 17" is not very portable.
