Oversized in length or chest size makes me

look shorter. Courtney and Amy often have tops coming down to the

middle of their thighs.
I know what size I usually am in b&m stores and usually am at QVC. No matter where I buy clothes, it’s never consistent. Even in shoes. I think I have it figured out, then I buy my size and it looks like a top my daughter can wear. Just returned a top I bought online from Macy’s, a 1X, and it looked like a relaxed medium or a semi fitted large. Sometimes I wonder who comes up with these sizes. Even within the same vendor/designer, no matter where you buy it from, it’s not consistent. Just frustrating.

It's called vanity sizing and anyone who has actually shopped in stores, boutiques,, online over the past 40 years knows full well that the US does not have standard sizing. Depending on the brand, designer it store I can go from a medium to a 1x and they all cut. And let's not even discuss stores like Chicos that use 1, 2, 3 sizing. Yes. It's very true that a department store xs is not a QVC xs. Hence the xxs that some QVC designers sell. When we shop anywhere we have to know our true measurements and use size charts. In brick&mortar stores we can try things on. I personally don't care about a size on a tag. I'm all about fit. Only about fit. I'm perfectly ok with going up or down a size to get the fit I want.

Confuses people.

It is detrimental to people that have eating disorders. It serves no purpose other than to convince people they wear a smaller size.

Why?

Just for a laugh.

I have a very distinct memory of when I first realized that vanity sizing exists. It was 1988, and my closest friend was having a tough time (she had been hospitalized for her mental health). I wanted to get her something special. She loved DKNY clothing, but it was too expensive for us college kids. Bloomies was having a big sale, so I hoped I could find something she would love.

I found the cutest sweatshirt. They were huge, though. Remember how huge tops were in the '80s? So that's huge. I found an XS that would work. When I gave her the gift, she was thrilled. She was ecstatic about the size. She kept exclaiming that she was an XS (in real life, she was an 18/20). That's when I realized vanity sizing exists.

It’s not just QVC. The problem is that the Asian market sometimes doesn’t take the US market into account. However Amazon lets you input your measurements and will suggest based on your height and weight which is best. All my clothes there are from China and never had to make a return.
