I have so many clothes to go through. I have not gained weight back. I would wait to purchase smaller sizes, you may lose more weight.

While getting ready for the big move in the spring, I've whittled down my clothes, bags, shoes, etc.

So many items don't get worn waiting for an ocassion. Well, at 76 it's time to wear the "better stuff" even if staying home that day and enjoy them instead of of my jeans and a bit worn tops.

Of course, not silk or cashmere to paint, cook and clean on my off days, but I decided to toss/donate the more worn things and get some wear out of the chinos, more inexpensive sweaters and do an easy makeup each morning.

How do you face each day? Separate wardrobes for days home and days with errands out of the house?

My doctor put me on mounjaro and, in addition to my A1C being down, I've lost a bit of weight. Some of my favorite bottoms, even with elastic waist, are now too big.

Because of the copious shedding from the BF's Siberian, I rarely wear my black items at home. He's only allowed in specific vehicles.

I've always enjoyed fashion and even in retirement I still do. Sure I have my lazy PJ days, but wherever I go I wear my better stuff. Why save them for an occasion that may never come. Of course I'm not wearing sequins and stillotos. You'll never see me out and about not at my best. Ok for errands just a bit of makeup and a messy bun, but I'm never sloppily dressed.

i always think of the Erma Bombeck quote, "If I had my life to live over I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage." Same applies to clothing.

I reached the same conclusion to start wearing and using the "better stuff" I have. I often wear nice tops, pants and flats out (instead of athletic shoes). I also do a simple make up when I go out. Use my Shark styler to freshen my hairstyle and tame my cow lick. It makes me feel like "me" when I clean up to go out. I don't want to look sloppy.

I did a major clean out of three big closets last spring. I'm ashamed to say how many brand new, tAgs still on items I found. And many that only been worn once or twice. I lost 75 pounds in 2023 so things were much to big. I donated them. Tossed out things that were not wearable. I'm retired and my life is exceedingly casual so I don't buy nearly as much clothing. And I'm not buying jewelry or handbags. I donated some big totes that I once used for work. I prefer mid sized cross body by age now. While I dress casually, I do dress up every day. I love my leggings, they make my legs look less chunky. And I wear straight leg jeans. It's cold in Massachusetts so my "uniform" is a chunky sweater, jeans or leggings, boots, talk or ankle; A statement coat. I'm wearing a DB faux fur now; And a statement handbag. I always wear makeup and jewelry, even if I'm staying in all day. Black leggings with a long sleeve white tee and thick white socks is my staying in "uniform". I love that dressing isn't the chore that it once was. I'm spending much less now and that really feels good. When I see something I like I ask myself "do you really need that?". Invariably the answer is....no.

Comfortable clothing for home, more fitted ones for going out--Dr. etc. I have a bunch of Appleseeds knit pants in mostly navy, black and a few blue, brown and gray ones. Nice enough for home or out for everything I do now.

I also wear LL Bean Ripstop slim leg joggers (LOVE these!!) and their chino or lakewashed pants.

I also have slim-leg jeans and jeggings I may wear out, but not for just at home very often. I see too many older women in them around here who aren't very well groomed and wearing "cute" t-shirts with them, so that's not my thing.

I also wear my pj's some mornings, or my sweatshirt dresses or even robe. And thank goodness, I'm good with just maybe a little cover up or my naked face now! A real blessing! My skin is so much better since I'm not wearing makeup for the most part!

Thank you @AngelPuppy1 . Yes, especially things from the kids' cchildhood and the granddaughters things they made like mugs, crocheted blankets for Molly, photo albums like our weddding, etc. We took out pics from each and put them in a closed file sized plastic box that will slide under the bed. We're geting a new bed frame that raises up for out of season sweaters and/or coats. Closets will never be like we have here in our house.

I'm more attached to people than thngs. I know intellectually going from 5000 sq. feet to maybe 1500-1600 sq. ft. will be a huge change and a squeeze and we rented a storage unit w/ A/C to hold any furniture, etc. that we're not sure will fit. We're packing everything else that we're definitely NOT taking to donate. It's difficult separating things into those three categories. Sometimes what I think is worth keeping like chairs or lamps, DH says "Nah" and some furniture he's attached to I say "Nah". When we really can't agree on something, that's what goes into storage.

Clothing: I came to this realization when downsizing my closet/dresser. I had 3 categories of clothing....junkier stuff to wear when not going out that day, a little nicer category for meeting friends during the day, errands, etc. and then better, more expensive clothing for meetings, dinners out, etc. It's the junkier stuff I whittled down to 3 outfits for cooking and cleaning when my "errand clothing" was too nice to mess up. I realized the knit pants and tops I go walking can be those 3-4 outfits, so another category eliminated. I never get more dressed than black silk pants and a silky shirt or dressy sweater....so 2 of each...same w/ shoes.

I still work but it is a jean office. I have several pair of jeans but I have my work ones and my bumming around ones. I wear nicer shirts or sweaters to work and older t shirts or sweatshirts around the house. Depends on what I am doing that day at home.

I try and be realistic in the things I buy any more. I am sure when I retire there will be some tops going to the donation pile. I can tell how I dress when I am off. Some I hardly wear now. I plan on keeping it simple.

I do like to look nice and do wear make up and earrings every day no matter what I have on.

I have way too many clothes but I do go through the closet on a regular basis and purge but I need to stop picking things up too.

I am pretty casual about my attire these days. I am wearing fleece leggings this time of year--along with a solid color long sleeve t- shirt and then a zip up hoodie over top---I run cold so I do layer. If I am doing housework I dress a little cooler. If I am going out socially, or on errands. I do wear presentable clothing. Everything is clean and in good condition tho. No designer brands in my wardrobe---have a few purses to change and shoes too. I have found that jeans are in short supply. I got rid of TONS of unworn clothing including prob 5 or 6 suede jackets and at least 40 pairs of shoes ----when I sold my house in 2021. Just bought some really nice ribbed, heavier weight t-shirts from Old Navy in Nov that were about $10 on sale--and boy are they nice. Not much into fashion anymore--just bores me.

I'm same as most everyone here... Because I cook a lot, and sloppily I might add, I wear my "at home" clothes, yoga pants and whatever top, which are not awful, but not anything I want to be seen in by my neighbors!
My everyday going out clothes are jeans a nicer top.
When I go out to dinner with hubby, I pull out the better stuff- which is once a week or less, so I should wear them more and not save them!! Best wishes friends that we have a good new year, trying to stay positive...

I've mentioned this lots of times... Yes, I do have photos of what I wore to both kid's weddings from the albums. I took photos of important moments instead of dragging thick albums of pictures...some repeated...same people or event. There just won't be enough room to take it all. That was the very first thing we discussed and agreed to part with what won't fit.

Yes, difficult at our age...physically and emotionally. Hubby took his sweet time to decide to downsize his business and many meetings with our financial advisor to check income from investments, trusts, etc. w/o his full practice monthly/yearly income. I think that concerned me more than the actural move.
