Two Phrases That I Hate to See in Product Descriptions

1) Rise slightly below the waiste ------Translation: These will hit me in a very uncomfortable place and I will be trying, unsuccessfully, to pull them up all day.

2) Acrilic----Translation, the very first time I wear this item, it will pill horribly. When I take it off, it will look to be years old. After the first washing, I will throw it away, as it will look too horrible to donate.

Are there any phrases that are a warning to you?

size up OR size down I know lines run differently , but , come on--what size is it? If I consider buying the item I read all of the reviews I can. Then try to decide.

The phrase that I hate to hear in tee shirt descriptions is 100% cotton. Translation, it will shrink at least 2 inches in length and "grow" 4 inches in width and have no shape after one wash. Yes even if washed in cold water and dried without heat. So it becomes a wear once, wash and then toss or wear it around the house. And this goes for even expensive cotton shirts.

@Kcubed. I've had the same experience with clothing, usually sweaters, containing acrylic yarn. It must be a dirt-cheap filler yarn. Otherwise why do manufacturers use it?

It's often found in Kim's Belle sweaters, I've noticed. I won't buy them.

Recycled fabric content.

Don't get me wrong, I love that there are more & more recycled materials in fashion. However, it's not standardized at all, so you never know what you'll get. It makes the fit, retention, durability, and feel of the fabric a ****** shoot. It's too expensive to keep returning items, and the exchange process is no guarantee you'll ever get what you want.

Trying to be altruistic in my buying habits, but recycled fabric content in jeans, shoes, tops, handbags, etc. is too much of a gamble for me via TV shopping. I 100% leave that for in person shopping.

24% recycled polyester

46% recycled polyester

22% recycled cotton

recycled vegan washable mules

Etc.

If you buy high-end cotton garments, then likely the cotton has already been shrunken before the process of making the garments.

Acrylic is a fabric substitute for wool and cashmere and, likely because of this, it is itchy. There are certain requirements for it to be called acrylic by the fabric institute. I would say if wool and/or cashmere cause you to itch, acrylic will as well.

The USA began pushing back against acrylic in the 70s and now that most garments are made in China, that is a fabric of choice and it is highly flammable unlike wool.

@Group 5 minus 1. Obviously you've never bought one of Isaac's Pima Cotton tees. Not only do they shrink if machine dried but they launder to an awful wrinkled mess.

When the fabric content is listed and there is a percentage of "other fibers." What the heck is that???

I absolutely will not buy anything if the label does not specify exactly what the fabric is made of. Even then the consumer is trusting that the factory is telling the truth....

@Kcubed While this isn't on the garment tag, I strongly dislike when hosts say "Just put in your size & get what's available". Having a color that's flattering or a color I want/need is just as important as the size. Just another disingenuous sales ploy which encourages me to shop elsewhere.
