Has anyone tried this on yellowed white clothing and had great results?

Specifically I am wanting to get the yellow out of some old white concert t shirts that are special to me. I want to have a t shirt quilt or throw made out of them. My worry is that it would also fade the design on the shirts.

I have had great success getting rid of yellowing on t-shirts from drawers in our shore house. Tide ( free & gentle ), fabric softener, and a touch of liquid bleach work fine. Try it without the bleach if you're hesitant; if you want whiter, then redo with the touch of bleach.

I wouldn't use anything with bleach on the t-shirts or anything that isn't all white cotton.

I've been using the White Revive for years and it works as well as bleach to whiten.

I was going to suggest powdered dishwasher detergent but it contains bleach. My girlfriend used it to whiten a vintage wedding dress.

I'd try the White Revive - nothing to lose - it won't ruin the t-shirts.

I soaked a yellow tank 100% cotton shirt in Oxi for a whole week to try to get a stain out. The stain came out and the tank did not fade. It has a matching same fabric same color cardigan. I was happy to be able to wear both pieces again.

Chlorine Bleach works only on cotton and natural fabrics. If you use bleach on poly fabric, it will turn the fabric yellow.

Oxi should not fade or remove color from any fabric, poly or natural as there is no bleach in it. It is color safe.

I'ved used the Oxi clean on white shirts . It works best to soak the items in warm hot water that contains OXI clean . For stubborn areas , wet first , then make a paste to apply to the areas and let sit an hour , then add to wash or bucket of water containing Oxi clean.

If areas still yellow, I have also directly applied concentrated bleach on just those persistent yellow stained areas

I have been having lots of trouble with whites turning because of the wash.

So I'm going to make a stain remover using Dawn and hydrogen peroxide.

I added borax to the last load of whites and it worked!
They came out of the wash looking bright and white!

I use regular Oxi-Clean all the time. It seems that even though I wash all my summer clothes before I store them for the winter, when I pull them out the next summer, there are yellow spots.

I fill a sink with warm water and a heaping scope of Oxi-Clean and soak the shirt for an hour or more. Then wash it and all the yellow spots are gone. The shirt is all white again.

And it didn't affect the design on the shirt.

@drizella - I use the White Revive in every white/lighte load and the regular Oxi Versatile in dark loads - I soak for an hour. Never have stains.

I've been using the Oxi Versatile for over 16 years. My husband had low blood platelets and thin skin and he was a bleeder. It got old blood stains out of sheets and his clothes. Amazing product.

@Greeneyedlady21 - Quilter here. As long as the shirts are clean the yellowing would not matter to me. If it matters to you, is the yellowing around the design on the shirts? Depending on the design of the quilt and the size of the design on the shirts a two or three inch border is all that is needed around the shirt design. If the yellowing is outside of that I would not worry about it at all.

The yellowing is part of the memories in the shirts.

I use a scoop of Arm and Hammer Laundry Booster in white loads, similar to Oxi but very economical.

I put one of the yellowed white concert t shirts in a plastic bucket with hot water and one Oxy White Revive pod this morning before I went to work.

When I got home tonight I emptied it and rinsed out the shirt, it already looks better. Going to do it again.
