Internet "Debate" About MOB Gown

Mother of the bride Lori wore this custom Audrey + Brooks floral design featuring a plunging neckline and a detachable bow and train. Her daughter Amanda's wedding dress was by Ramona Keveza.

There were the usual comments that the Mom was trying to upstage the daughter, it's not her day, she wants to be the star.

They purchased their gowns together while on a shopping trip in NYC, and Amanda said her Mom's gown was perfect. She said her Mom looked stunning, and that it was just as much her Mom's day as it was hers.

I agree with Amanda, who doesn't want their Mom to shine too? Why are women always portrayed as competing with each other for attention, even a loving Mother and daughter?

Bu the way there is now a waitlist for this custom MOB dress.

The mother is very attractive. How could the mother play that down? And why would she? IMO, she could have worn a potato sack and still looked good.

My gosh.....what a beautiful dress.

The fabric looks very expensive.

As long as her daughter Amanda loves it, good for her.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the mom's dress is not appropriate for church. But since it's their wedding, not my concern.

Dress is beautiful from the front, not so much from the back IMO. Both women are beautiful though. And, if the daughter is happy, who is anybody to say the mother shouldn't buy/wear the dress? When it's their wedding, then they can have a say.

Did the beautiful mother become the star of the show? She is beautiful. I don't think the daughter is as beautiful but is beautiful and looks very happy. The thought of the mother outshining the bride reminds me of Kate Middleton's wedding, when her sister, Pippa, became the star of that show because of her rear guard in that beautiful white dress. Many women under 40 were trying to find a similar dress before dark but many realized it was not the dress, but the body within. Kate was actually the beauty, however. She looked happy.

Both of the dresses are gorgeous. The MOB dress is beautiful fabric and looks elegant. However, I'd personally never wear a dress that low cut. It is out of my comfort zone.

I guess I'm the odd one out here. Yes, it's a beautiful dress, but the mother is showing more cleavage than her daughter.

Plus the long train and the small bouquet of flowers? It all seems a very odd look, IMO, for the mother of the bride.

(I'm used to the MOB having a corsage of some sort, but I guess it would've been difficult to pin it anywhere on that dress! Maybe a wrist corsage?)

The brides gown is gorgeous & suits her figure perfectly but it is a simpler cleaner look. The mom's dress is much flashier with the train, clevage, bow, bright colors & you could say it outshines the brides more conservative gown.

So true @Kachina624 - I was just about to post that. IMO it's a beautiful dress, but way too revealing in front for your child's wedding. She could have covered up for the ceremony.

One of my close friends was recently the MOB. I had to laugh when she told me about getting her dress. She said they kept bringing out typical MOB dresses. She finally gave up and went somewhere else. She wore a sleek navy dress that was so pretty - and covered up!

I just saw this on the Internet. The MOB said the dress was originally strapless but that she didn't think that was appropriate "for a Catholic church".
