I came across this website while browsing ideas for my next knit or crochet project ...."shawlovers dot com" (I'm just about finished my latest cardigan.)

@ALRATIBA. I thought of you when I saw this a few days ago and thought, "hmm, ALRATIBA's next project".

I hear crocheted shoes aree "in" whichg led me to wonder if the soles and patterns are available somewhere.

Gee - it's been so many years since we made those - Girl Scouts - back in the "dark ages." I checked around .... you can buy the soles.

@ALRATIBA After you complete the shawls and shoes, you could crochet handbags. My grandmother would buy the closure that had an attached handle. She then crocheted a bag to the closure mechanism. She lined it with something, but this had to be 65 or 70 years ago. I cannot remember the details. She also crocheted stretchy "pearl" rings for us.

Thanks for the suggestion.

We did that when we were kids in the Girl Scouts for merit badges. And, of course, our dolls had complete crochet wardrobes, and our doll houses crochet curtains and bedspreads.

These days .... I'm only into sweaters, and afghans and shawls .... some for me and some for our women's charity group (for nursing homes).

Many years ago I knitted for a neonatal unit. I don't think they accept that any longer because of allergies, etc.

As a teen I crocheted so many of them, I remember one in particular white triangle shape with a beautiful cluster stitch. I wonder what happened to it

I also read that ruanas are totally outdated, and that is almost all i have; never wear them anymore anyway, so this gives me the perfect excuse to toss them. I love a cashmere shawl I have because it is so lightweight; may have to start looking for a couple of new ones for the fall.

My mother crocheted handbags and bought closures that were brass and sometimes wooden. It was her winter hobby besides potting plants in the greenhouse (before she opened the restaurant). Then that became her full-time everything.

I have macramed handbags for which I bought handles. I used very nice macrame cording (very fine cord) and made handbags for a sister, a good friend and myself. They were the cat's meow back then but that trend quickly dissipated.
