By the way--Petites vs regular/tall

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before. BUT some of the hosts/vendors keep saying if your size has sold out "go ahead and get the regular or if your regular has sold out get the tall" etc.

In my experience the petite sizing is not just a matter of length. It is a matter of overall fit.

I can get away with buying regular in tops sometimes but have never tried it with pants.

What do you all say?

I always check the measurements. The rise is usually (not always though) higher for a regular vs. a petite. If you don't mind a higher rise then it can work for you.

I will never buy a tall since it would be too long and the rise too high.

@Beammeupscotty. I’ve heard that too. I think it mostly applies to crop pants where there is a lot of leeway in the lengths. Of course if you are a real petite (not just short) then you may not be able to take advantage of that option. I am short too 5.3.5 but not petite. I do play around with pants lengths often depending on where they will hit my leg. I do not like my tops to be too long as they swallow me up. I prefer tops thst are maximum 24-25 inches in length

I check the garment measurements chart to see how the different categories compare. Sometimes I can get away with wearing a 'regular' when I'm actually a 'petite' in size.

The host are sales people. They aren't stylists or wardrobe consultants. Yes, they say that but I'm an adult. I. Know how I like to wear my clothes. I'm 5'2" and I cannot wear regular clothes pants. It's petite or I pass. I don't like my knees so I choose regular in dresses and skirts. Except for maxi length. That I need petite. Also I only wear petite. In tunic tops. I sometimes go down a size in tunic or full tops. I don't care what the hosts and vendors say on that subject.

buy clothing designed for my height. Some may not realize petite women also have shorter arms, and a regular sized long sleeve top hangs down way too far.

With a few exceptions, I do not buy clothes from the Q. I really do not get why they ignore our population so many times. Other clothing businesses universally offer their clothing in petites. They get my business.

I have a longer torso and rise, but very short legs, so petite does not work for me at all. The rise is always too short. I do wish they would occasionally offer short lengths in pants. I know Quacker Factory does, but while they're styles are very nice, they're not my style.

A true petite garment is not just shorter in length. It is shorter in the torso and rise.

If you are not petite and try to wear a true petite pant, you will have an instant wedgie.

In a dress, the waist area will be higher on the garment.

For most full skirts, it doesn't matter too much.

I find that a lot of so called petite sizes are just shorter and not really petite.

It depends on the customer and her proportions and whether she is short or a petite. I always check the garment measurements to see if I can wear a "regular" in an item. There's more flexibility for me in dresses and skirts as opposed to pants. I don't see it as bad advice but just another option when shopping. I did the same in brick and mortar stores where I could try on a regular or petite size in an item.

I heard that comment last night to just buy a regular if they're out of the petite. The individual saying it, I think, would had benefited by wearing a petite.

Bottom line is that a host want you to buy while they're presenting something. They don't care if it fits you, how it looks, or anything else. They just want the sale.

I am short 5'3" and the arms on petite tops & jackets are TOO SHORT for me!

Not all petites have short arms!

We are all shaped differently, even when we are the same height.

I buy all my clothes from QVC and am able to make it work 95% of the time.

Although I'm short, I have a long rise.

I check the "click here" measurements, which I really appreciate having as part of my decision.

I can usually tell from the rise measurements and inseam measurements if pants are going to fit.

Interesting. I find that the petites that I am able to get work out great for me. I am 5' 1-1/2" . Especially those by Women With Control. Also the crops I just got from the Zarian line fit me like a true petite.

The petite tops I have bought work out for me also. I suppose it depends on the designer? I have a lot of WWC and Attitudes. I do have narrow shoulders and short arms and legs no idea what my rise is, never really paid attention?

@Icegoddess Yes I know for a fact that was true some time ago. I have no idea about now, but at least originally a "petite" was pertaining to length only at QVC. And I know to think about that when I order from QVC. I don't order things that really need to fit from QVC.

It has never been their speciality.

I always have to have petite when buying bottoms. Shorts and skirts must be petite. I don’t listen to sales pitches. Sadly, most of what they are selling is soooo ugly that I guess I will just wear what I already have. Pants and shorts are so baggy looking. Tops just hang. No decent seaming on anything. Can’t even find a decent summer tee shirt. For the past four years the quality of clothing has gone so far down. Mostly synthetic fabrics even for summer! Baggy, baggy awful stuff. I guess they think that we are all vegans now. No suede or leather. Everything is “faux.” If not for the Irish sweaters there would not even be any real wool on this site or HSN. I just will not buy from the corporate overlords anymore.
