Why is the price for a nothing special shirt over $60 once you add taxes and s + h? I love Denim & Co. but the prices are outrageous! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what changed? Can fabric really have gone up that much? I'm sure most of the stuff is still made in 3rd world sweat shops, so I don't think it's workers wages so what could it be? I'm hoping beyond hope it's not greed. I hate people.

I may have part of the answer. I read a lengthy article about this, but it was a while ago, so I may be paraphrasing a bit.

I don't recall the exact statistics, but I'll give you the gist of what I remember.

Approximately 4-5 years ago, the cost of manufacturing cotton jumped considerably, from growing to processing to sending off to manufacturers to make whatever they planned to make. What had already been manufactured and was in the process of being made into ... whatever ... took some time since there was plenty in the pipeline.

Anyway, as the higher-cost cotton and cotton blends made it to market, everyone noticed. Suddenly there seemed to be a LOT more polyester around also, to offset other price increases. Personally, I thought the polyester was too high, too. I can't help but wonder if the price was raised to "match" cotton price increases, but that's just speculation on my part.

Anyway, what has happened, that many of us have noticed, is that whether it's cheap tee shirts at Target or better pima cotton by Issac or even very good cotton towels ... they cost a lot more than they used to.

Obviously, it's not just the higher priced raw material cotton that contributes to this, but it's definitely one part of the problem.

A friend of mine bought a lovely, good quality washcloth at Macy's on sale today. The regular price ... for that one washcloth .... was $20.

QVC's clothing prices skyrocketed when they added sizes 4 &5X. Those sizes take a tremendous amount of material and to avoid charging more for extended sizes QVC divided the additional cost among all sizes. Those of us who wear the smaller sizes are paying for all that extra fabric. Add in inflation and all the salaries that QVC pays the hosts and production crews,, for 3 networks and now livestreams, and there you have it.

I don't know of any third world countries who export clothing to the USA.

Most of our clothing imports from QVC come from China which is a first world country with an outstanding economy.

Since very few companies in the US manufacture clothing or fabric, or anything else for that matter, if we want merchandise, we have to import it.

They can charge what they want to and if we need it, we will have to pay for it. everyone in the chain must get paid...for fabric, for manufacturing, for packing, for transportation to the US, transportation to a warehouse,transportation from the warehouse to our home.

QVC gets paid to market the product and pay their employees. How many US employees are involved to get this clothing to you? Overhead is high.

I don't see prices going down anytime soon.

We in the US buy a lot of disposable clothing...high fashion, low quality. We have closets full of stuff we purge often and buy more of.

We are better off owning better clothing, but less of it. Clothing should last for years. Instead it ends up in landfills polluting our land, water and food.

Really, how much clothing do we really need?

Buyers are also told that they need these costly products for whatever reason. And we believe this nonsense. Many buyers do not do their research.

Do those $100.00 shoes really make your feet feel better? Do those COSTLY jeans make you look slimmer. The makeup and skin care formulas are pretty much the same and many, many buyers believe "you get what you pay for" or the more it costs the better the product!

I have to watch my budget since I retired and I find that it's often hard to find clothing items that I really like for a price that I can afford. I realize that the price for everything has gone up and has gone up a lot, especially in light of certain things occurring which I will not go into because I do not want to get banned! However, I think most of us know what I'm talking about. I want everyone to be able to make a wage that they can live on. If I see something I really like, I will keep checking on it to see if it goes on sale or comes down in price to something that I can afford. I'm like you though, I just can't and won't spend $60 for just a plain old top.

I will really be watching what I purge. Most of us have way more clothes than we need. Honestly, I have had some tops for 10 years. Glad I have them. I am not spending $60 for a cotton D&C top. (Talking for myself only not judging) I know, we can all buy what we want, what we can afford. I'm glad I don't have so much disposable clothing. I still shop sales, Kohls, Macys, but the quality is down a lot of places. I have more than I ever need. Wants is different. But I need nothing.

I bought a lunchtime special Susan Graver top. Better price, but still a different (lower) quality than even two years ago.

I rarely buy clothing from the Q, but will occasionally if it’s a good deal. I still find great prices at other retailers (both online and b&m stores.) Macys, Kohls, Target, Marshall’s, JCP, etc. Many offer coupons and have frequent sales. I find the quality just as good, if not better, than Q designers. It’s also easier to return if I don’t like it.

they really are not that much of a bargain-check out others like below from Target-

Not that we or anyone never wants to buy from QVC just saying that no matter how any would like to justify QVC's prices, you really can't. Just need to say, yes, they do charge a lot and mostly are overpriced. Still people like to buy from here. Out of loyalty or fun or just used to ordering from here from tv or online.

I've ordered from QVC too of course, but rarely clothes anymore. Just no need for any to try to justify or continue to defend QVC's high and mostly overpriced pricing."It is what it is." For better or worse.

And Universal thread shown here is 100% cotton (something QVC has a hard time offering for some reason) so saying the high cost of cotton is raising prices, is not the reason QVC charges so much.

QVC used to be better prices because they could get better deals ordering great quantities. That was what used to be the V in QVC. That is no longer.

If you pay attention to what big corporations are doing, it's all greed.

Corporate profits have skyrocketed even though they say other issues resulted in price increases.

Corporations used covid the the recession of January 2021 as an excuse to price gouge.

I worked for a huge international corporation for nearly 40 years. I was high enough up the ladder to know what was really going on.

People need to stop being so naive about how big corporations work.

I rarely buy from Q anymore. I can find nearly identical (or identical) clothes, food, shoes, 14k jewelry, electronics, bedding, furniture, and everything else for less money at other retailers. Plus, most of those I shop with offer free shipping and I rarely pay return fees.
