Leggings, under a dress

What do you all think of that look? In the summer when I wear a dress sometimes I need a bit more coverage on my legs. I have in the past worn a thin legging under a dress, always black or dark navy, depending on the dress.

Just curious if anyone else wears leggings in this way, the length I wear is usually roughly 21".

I was going thru a catalog this afternoon and one of the photos was showing this look.

I think leggings under a skirt is one of the silliest looks in fashion today. I would die wearing them in summer, or anytime, if the temperature was over 75°.

I think it can look cute...but it was never something I wore.

I liked it on the Go Go's in the 80's but it wasn't my style.

@Mom2Dogs If you feel more confident and comfortable wearing leggings under a dress, do it! It's not a look I would wear, but I've never been a huge fan of leggings anyway.

We don't all have HOT summers. PNW, Calif., etc. Yes, I like the look of leggings under a dress.

Around the house during the hot summer months I wear short sundresses and 'go commando'. No way I would wear leggings in the summer. Too hot.

@Kachina624 It has to be really hot to bother me...I also think it depends on your fashion style.

I would wear leggings with boots or booties in cool weather under a skirt or slacks.

I freeze.

With tea length and long skirts, your legs will be covered.

I would never wear leggings with open toe. I've never seen "webbed feet" look good.

Nope, not a look I care for at all. If I’m wearing a dress I either wear hosiery or bare tanned legs in Summer, but never leggings.

My daughter works in a daycare (Kita) in Germany and they are always bending over to speak with the kids so she wears leggings to help keep things covered.

It can look cute but leggings for me are too hot in summer. But try it if you want. It may look good on you.

Have you tried the long undies or shapers they sell? They come part way down your thigh and would be cooler then leggings. Breezies has had them as a TSV a couple times.

I've worn this esp when the dress is shorter. I think it really is the same as wearing tights or even stockings. Just different names for pretty much the same thing?

Maybe we all have different ideas about what is a legging.

I have a black legging I wear under some dresses and it looks like black tights.

I think it's a cute look. I couldn't do it here in the south when it starts getting hot but I know there are lots of places where they'd be fine. April Cornell does this look a lot and I like it.

@on the bay The leggings I would wear would cover the calf...so part of the leg is left uncovered...and I would wear a sandal.

I have had leggings that are shear like hosery as well as a little heavier. Not as heavy as a legging worn as a pant...those I do not wear.

I haven't worn that "look" since grammar school! If it's so cold I need to cover my legs, I just wear pants.
