Question: Tailoring a coat

May I ask those who sew or who are familiar with tailoring how easy it is to have a wrap wool coat tailored in size? Say, from a "large" size to a "medium" or even a "small"?

I'm not familiar with how much of an adjustment can be made with tailoring.

Not necessarily in the length of the coat.... but, the arms/shoulders or waist, etc?

It would virtually have to be remade the shape woul never be the same

@I am still oxox is correct in her assessment. It would take a skilled tailor to "re-create" an entire coat, and would be costly. Not a job for an amateur. di

@Julie_23 Years ago I had a very nice swing coat that needed altering. The taylor said it could not be done as they coat would not hang the same way after alterations.

I used to do alterations professionally. I would have to see the garment first to give you an idea of what can be done with it to make it smaller.

Unless the outer fabric is worth keeping, the cost will be too high I think. But if you do choose to alter, also choose new lining, maybe in a fun color?

From what you describe you're probably better off buying a new coat in the correct size.
